Here’s the Sleep Apnea Detection Feature on Galaxy Watch

The highly anticipated event Galaxy Unpacked It’s just a few hours away and information leaked about the next Galaxy Watch 7 e Galaxy Watch Ultra there are many, but not yet completely complete. In fact, earlier this year, Samsung made headlines by obtaining the authorization of the FDA for sleep apnea detection, a first for a consumer smartwatch.

Now, thanks to a thread by Reddit spotted by 9to5Google, we have a first idea of how this feature could work. A user of the program beta One UI 6 Watch has released screenshots showing the feature Sleep Apnea activated on your Galaxy Watch after an update to the Samsung Health Monitor app.

As you can see from the image, the functionality will require wear the watch while sleeping for two nights. The watch will monitor the user’s sleep for a minimum of 4 hours every nightmonitoring relative decreases in blood oxygen levels. After two nights, the feature will automatically turn off and provide the user with a result indicating the likelihood of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea.

The user also mentioned additional technical requirements for the feature:

  • Minimum Watch Support: Galaxy Watch 4
  • Minimum operating system: Wear OS 5.0 (One UI 6)
  • Minimum phone operating system: Android 9

Although Samsung has not yet announced this feature for its watches, its arrival with the One UI 6 Watch beta makes it plausible that the sleep apnea detection capability will launch with the Galaxy Watch 7 at the Unpacked event today, July 10. Additionally, since One UI 6 Watch will also be rolling out to the Galaxy Watch 4, Watch 5, and Watch 6 series, it’s likely that these older models will also get the new sleep apnea feature.
