Audi announced major changes in its model lineup. The German manufacturer will abandon the internal combustion version of the A6 to make room for the new fully electric A6 E-Tron. The next generation of the A6 with traditional engines will be renamed A7 and will be revealed in early 2025.
This move is part of a larger one Audi’s strategy to clearly differentiate electric models from combustion ones. CEO Markus Duesmann had already anticipated these changes in the nomenclature last March. The new naming is already in place for some models: the A4 with conventional engines has become A5, leaving room for a future electric A4 E-Tron.
As for the new A7, Audi did not provide many details, but some spy photos of a camouflaged prototype in sedan version have already circulated. It is unclear whether the current Sportback body style will also be retained or whether it will only be available as a traditional sedan.
Indeed, Since 2020 Audi has been marketing a sedan version of the A7 in Chinacalled A7L, based on the locally produced long-wheelbase variant. However, the Chinese market continues to have access to the five-door Sportback version.
In addition to the sedan, Audi has confirmed that the new A7 will also be available in version Avantor station wagon. There will even be a variant RS7 Front high performance. Before the debut of the new A7, Audi will reveal the next generation of the Q5 Sportback by the end of this month, further expanding its SUV coupe offering.
