Hezbollah injures several in attack against Israeli Haifa

Several people were injured on Sunday evening in the northern Israeli city of Haifa, where rockets from the Lebanese Shia militia Hezbollah were struck down.

This is according to the Israeli police, according to the Reuters news agency.

Haifa is Israel’s third largest city.

Several media reports that the attack has injured several people. However, it is immediately unclear exactly how many people have been injured.

According to the Israeli newspaper Times of Israel, five people have been injured, none of whom are reported to be life-threatening.

CNN writes that six people are involved, while according to Reuters there are ten injured.

Hezbollah said, according to Reuters, that the attack was aimed at a military base south of Haifa, and that it was carried out with missiles of the Fadi 1 type.

According to the police in Israel, some buildings have been damaged in this connection.

Israel’s military also says its fighter jets have struck Hezbollah targets in Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, in recent hours.

According to the military, several explosions occurred after the attacks, which “may indicate” that Hezbollah was storing weapons in the places Israel attacked.

In addition to Beirut, Israel has also carried out airstrikes in southern Lebanon and around Bekaa, which is centrally located in the country, the military says.

According to Israel, the attacks hit, among other things, weapons stores, infrastructure and a command center.

There are no reports yet of whether anyone has been injured in the Israeli attacks.

According to CNN, the attack on Haifa is apparently the first time in the ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel that rockets have hit the city.

After almost daily shelling over the border with Lebanon, Israel has significantly stepped up its offensive against Hezbollah, which is Iran’s most important ally in the region.

Israel has carried out a long series of airstrikes and a ground invasion in southern Lebanon.
