(Changwon = Newsis) Reporter Hong Jeong-myeong = On the afternoon of the 24th, the National Institute of Fisheries Science expanded the high water temperature preliminary special report to the entire coast of Gyeongnam Province and issued a high water temperature advisory for Chungnam Province, Jeonnam Province, and Jeju Island.

A high water temperature special report is issued in waters where the water temperature is expected to rise to 25 degrees, a caution is issued when the water temperature is expected to reach 28 degrees, and a warning is issued when the water temperature remains above 28 degrees for three days or more.

Gyeongnam Province inspected the preemptive response measures for fishery disasters in coastal cities and counties from the 17th to the 24th to prepare for and respond quickly to major natural disasters in the summer, such as high water temperatures and red tide.

As a result of the inspection, it was confirmed that 59,000 tons of yellow soil, 23 public quarantine equipment including yellow soil spreaders, and 4,520 personal quarantine equipment for fishermen including bottom seawater supply devices have been secured.

In addition, we identified on-site difficulties in responding to fishery disasters and discussed with cities and counties ways to quickly process carcasses to prevent secondary damage in the event of mass carcasses.

Gyeongnam Province plans to strengthen fishing ground surveillance in preparation for future high water temperatures, provide on-site guidance on management methods for each fishing ground, and do its best to minimize damage to fishermen by promptly providing information on water temperature changes through BAND and text messages.

Song Jin-young, head of the Fisheries Policy Division, said, “This summer, through thorough advance preparations, the public and private sectors will work together as one to actively respond so that damage to fishermen from fishery disasters such as high water temperatures and red tides can be minimized.”

Meanwhile, as part of its field-centered response, Gyeongnam Province visited fishing sites such as offshore fishing dams and land-based fish farms on the 21st and 27th of last month to encourage fish farm workers who are working hard to prepare for high water temperatures and red tides in the heat wave.

And this year, in order to minimize damage from high temperatures and red tide, a total budget of 11.8 billion won was secured, including 1.4 billion won for the establishment of high temperature response equipment, 4.5 billion won for red tide control, 2.5 billion won for disaster insurance subscription support, and 3.4 billion won for the modernization of fish farms.
