Italian hockey representative Gregorio Gios can talk about great happiness in adversity. The defender was hit by a shotgun held by his father.

He confirmed the whole incident, which happened during a joint hunt, for the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Andrea Gios is the president of the Italian Ice Sports Federation and in the past he also served as the mayor of Asiago.

25-year-old Gios plays for the local hockey club, which operates in the international Austrian league ICEHL. Due to the injury caused by his father, he will miss his team until January.

Champion of Italy and the Alpine Hockey League, Gios played ten games this season and recorded two assists.

In the past, he worked in Bolzano, where as a youngster he gained experience in Finnish hockey competitions. With the Italian national team, he participated in the World Hockey Championships in 2021 and 2022.
