In a stunning achievement of engineering and performance, the Bugatti W16 Mistral has set a new world speed record for an open-top car.
This historic achievement by Bugatti further cements its legacy as a pioneer in the automotive world, adding another jewel to its crown of innovation and speed.
Legacy of Speed
The path of Bugatti towards conquering speed records began more than a decade ago with the iconic Veyron 16.4 Super Sport in 2010, which reached 431.07 km/h.
This was followed in 2013 by the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, which achieved 408.84 km/h as the fastest convertible, and the Chiron Super Sport 300+, which broke the speed record for vehicles with a closed cabin by reaching 490 .48 km/h in 2019.
Now, the W16 Mistral carries the torch into the future reaching the astonishing mark of 453.91 km/h, setting a new standard.
Record Race
The world record was set on November 9 at the renowned ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg GmbH track in Germany.
Andy Wallace, official Bugatti driver and champion of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, was in charge of taking the W16 Mistral to its record speed.
Beginning with a warm-up lap to prepare the specially designed high-performance tires, Wallace accelerated the vehicle to 200 km/h before unleashing its full potential on the straight stretch of track.
With the W16 engine roaring and the open cockpit offering an incomparable sensory experience, the car reached its record speed under the supervision of SGS-TÜV Saar GmbH, officially confirming the achievement.
A Singular Work of Art
The W16 Mistral World Record Car is much more than a technical marvel; It is a testament to Bugatti’s art. Priced at €14 million, the vehicle’s design reflects its elite status, with a visible black carbon fiber exterior accented by vibrant “Jet Orange” accents on the lower body and wheels.
This unique design language continues inside, enveloping drivers in a cabin that exudes a sense of triumph and exclusivity.
Historic Moment Witnessed
For the first time in Bugatti’s history, the owner of the vehicle was present to witness this historic event.
Adding to the exclusivity, the owner was invited to join Andy Wallace in a high-speed race, experiencing first-hand the extraordinary capabilities of the W16 Mistral.
The owner, whose collection includes other record-breaking Bugattis such as the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport and the Chiron Super Sport 300+, continues to celebrate Bugatti’s rich history through his notable Singh Collection.
Testimony of Innovation
Reflecting on the achievement, Mate Rimac, CEO of Bugatti Rimac, stated:
“Since 1909, Bugatti has continually redefined what is possible in luxury, elegance and performance. “This new record not only represents the repetition of history, but it is new history at its finest.”
Looking to the Future
The record-breaking performance of the W16 Mistral is not only a milestone for Bugatti, but also for the entire automotive industry. It is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when engineering precision meets limitless ambition. With this achievement, Bugatti continues to inspire the world, demonstrating that limits are made to be surpassed.
