Historic moment: control on the Hungarian-Romanian border has been abolished

The head of the National Police Headquarters, police lieutenant general János Balogh, and the head of the Romanian Border Police Chief Inspectorate, chief inspector Cornel-Laurian Stoica, symbolically jointly opened the state border between Hungary and Romania. At the ceremony, the Hungarian Police Band played the anthems of the two countries and the European Union.

The leaders jointly opened the barrier at the Csánádpalota highway border crossing on January 1, 2025, at 0:00 a.m. Romanian time.

The opening of the border took place in the framework of a similar ceremony at other crossing points on the Hungarian-Romanian border section.

At the ceremony, national police chief János Balogh called it an uplifting, historic moment that the border control on the Romanian-Hungarian border will be abolished. He said, “we have been waiting for this moment for a long time”.
