With the Skyline, HMD is launching a smartphone under its own brand that is easy to repair and has a “detox mode” to help its owners relax.
HMD is introducing more and more smartphones under its own brand and no longer under license from Nokia. This includes the Skyline, which is due to be launched in August in pink and black for 499 euros.
HMD places a particular emphasis on easy repairability: the back of the smartphone can be removed with a screw to quickly replace the battery and display. The specialists at iFixit awarded this nine out of ten possible points in their index.
The equipment includes a 6.55-inch pOLED display, a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, 8 GB RAM and 128 GB data storage, which can be expanded via a MicroSD slot. The 4,600 mAh battery can be charged via cable with up to 33 watts or wirelessly with a maximum of 15 watts. On the back there is a triple camera with a 108-megapixel main lens as well as a wide-angle and a lens for depth of field. The 50-megapixel selfie cam can also be activated via gesture control.
On the left side of the case there is a so-called custom button to which two actions can be assigned, depending on whether the button is pressed once or twice. The Detox app is designed to turn smartphones into “dumbphones”: It deactivates notifications from social media apps for a period of time specified by the user.
