‘HMD Skyline looks a lot like old Nokia Lumia 920’

Renders have leaked of the HMD Skyline, a mid-range smartphone that clearly plays on nostalgia, as the device looks a lot like the classic Nokia Lumia 920, which was released eleven years ago.

‘Renders show HMD Skyline’

HMD is not yet a very well-known player in the smartphone world, but the company has been around for a while. They have been releasing phones under the Nokia name for a long time. Earlier this year, the manufacturer launched three dirt-cheap devices in the HMD Pulse series. Now it seems time for a slightly more expensive smartphone.

Tasty Sudhanshu Ambhore published a number of renders of the HMD Skyline on X. This is a mid-range smartphone with a very striking design. Behind the screen with rounded corners, a rectangular frame can be seen. This makes the device strongly reminiscent of the Nokia Lumia 920 from 2013. HMD probably hopes to play on nostalgia. The edges are therefore very thick for a phone from 2024.

The HMD Skyline is said to be powered by a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip, which is suitable for most common tasks, but not for heavy gaming. The OLED screen has a 120Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals.

There are three lenses visible on the back. The main camera has a resolution of 108 megapixels. In addition, you can count on a wide-angle lens and a macro camera for close-ups. Selfies are shot in a resolution of 32 megapixels.

The battery has a capacity of 4900 mAh and charges with 33 watts. An IP67 certification ensures good protection against water and dust.

First HMD smartphones were not a success

When the HMD Skyline will be released and what it will cost, we cannot yet tell you. The smartphone will undoubtedly be more expensive than the HMD Pulse Pro, the most extensive model in the Pulse series. That had a recommended retail price of only 179.99 euros. As you can read in our review, the device was not recommended even for that money. Below is already part of the conclusion.

Although the HMD Pulse Pro doesn’t cost much, it is still too expensive. The list of disadvantages is endless. The smartphone is incredibly slow, has a mediocre screen, a lousy camera and a creaking casing. The fact that you can repair it relatively easily is a small consolation.
