Those who have been to previous editions know it, those who will go for the first time this year will notice it: Homo Faberthe event desired and organized by the Michelangelo Foundationrepresents a complete vision of the world of craftsmanship, an astonishing look at the selection of authors characterized by absolute excellence in the techniques used and in the aesthetic choice. It is a real babel that from this year, for the first time, selects works from all the continents of the world, in the extraordinary setting of the Giorgio Cini Foundation.
A decisive difference in this year’s exhibition is the artistic direction signed by Luca Guadagnino e Nicholas Rosemary which with their installation have not only created a more accessible path fluent e organic among the various exhibition venues, but they also brought added value by having commissioned the furnishings used to various craftsmen, such as in the Refectory room covered by the upholsterer Peter Virzi and organized around the monumental table created by Acorn Shop and the carpet of Jaipur.
The theme chosen by Hanneli Rupert And The Journey of Lifeis interpreted with thematic selections chosen from central moments of life, such as the birthstarting point of the visit, celebration, dream e voyage.
The visit can last just an hour, but it could go on forever because behind every object there is a story to tell, an in-depth analysis that can be accessed thanks to the ambassadors in every room who can reveal the processes and workmanship behind every creation. But also thanks to the live demonstrations available throughout the exhibition.
Alberto Cavalliexecutive director of the Michelangelo Foundation, explains the choice: “Luca Guadagnino and Nicolò Rosmarini have developed a true artisans’ attention to spaces, details and atmosphere, inserting the objects in a evocative narration, authorial and truly unique. The 800 works on display, coming from around 70 countries of the worldwere created by artisans who, with their talent, tell a precious and unexpected diversity.”
Outside the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Homo Faber in the City invites visitors to enrich their experience by exploring the artisan workshops of Venezia developed by Cologni Foundation of the Arts and Crafts with the support of Cartier and in collaboration with prestigious Venetian institutions, the program sees 70 atelier open the doors to the public.
