Honda’s Doorless Concept Expected at Pebble Beach

The car you see in these photos is called Honda HP-X and is the first modern concept car from the Japanese company. Designed by Pininfarinawas first presented at the Turin Motor Show of the 1984as a preview of a sports and ultra-aerodynamic car.

After 40 years, the company has chosen to exhibit it in August at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance fully restored, where it will be the first Japanese car to participate in the event’s 50-year history, competing in the “Wedge-Shaped Concept and Prototypes Class”.

A Honda in all respects

To talk about this particular concept we can only start from the car body. The HP-X, in fact, was designed by Pininfarina in the mid-80s with two unique features: the absence of doors and the wedge shape.

The one-piece bodywork, in fact, is designed in this way and equipped with various aerodynamic appendages in Kevlar e carbon fiber with the aim of generating the so-called “ground effect”, something also accentuated by the removable one-piece fighter jet-style Perspex canopy.

Just like the exterior, the interior of the HP-X is also designed and produced with innovative materials thanks to in-depth styling research conducted by Pininfarina itself and equipped with an advanced “electronic driving support system” developed by Honda with GPS and even road condition warnings via a “special sonar”.

Finally, a new engine is chosen V6 2.0-litre engine derived from the one installed on Honda’s Formula 2 cars and built at the time making extensive use of innovative materials.
