National soccer team coach Hong Myung-bo met with Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min for about an hour and spoke privately with him.

According to the Korea Football Association on the 20th, Coach Hong met with Son Heung-min in London, England the previous afternoon, local time. Son Heung-min is the first player that Coach Hong has met with since becoming the national team coach.

A Korea Football Association official said, “Son Heung-min and coach Hong Myung-bo met on the afternoon of the 19th and talked for about an hour,” and added, “Coach Hong will personally discuss what they talked about in the future.”

Coach Hong, who visited Europe to find a foreign coach to assist him, is accompanied by a staff member who is fluent in English and Spanish. When he met Son Heung-min, he dismissed this staff member and spoke to him alone.

Coach Hong said in a press conference held after a K-League match after being appointed as the national team coach, “It is true that the national team has many good players,” and added, “If talent is placed on dedication and sacrifice, it will display tremendous power, but if it is placed on selfishness, it will not be displayed.”

He is scheduled to move to Germany on the 20th to meet with Kim Min-jae (Munich) and Lee Jae-sung (Mainz), key players in the national team’s defense and midfield.
