Hongqi comes with a luxurious four-seater convertible

Nowadays there are few convertibles available in which you can make the top of your head dance with four people. The Chinese Hongqi wants to do something about this. It seems to be planning to bombard the car market with a luxurious open four-seater. AutoWeek has turned up patent plates in the database of the China National Intellectual Property Administration that clearly indicate this. The Hongqi H6 is now only available as a sedan. The car on the patent plates looks familiar to us when viewed from the front and from the back. The snout and tail of the car clearly resemble those of the Hongqi H6, which is not available in Europe. A big difference between that 5 meter long luxurious liftback and the car on the patent drawings: the model on the drawings is a convertible with four seats. The rear reminds us somewhat of the buttocks of the Lexus LC, although that similarity is not reserved for the open four-seater. The Hongqi H6 – the sedan – also has a similar bottom. In the buttocks of Hongqi’s convertible we detect a hint of Lexus LC. The as yet unnamed open Hongqi undoubtedly shares its technology with the H6. This means that the Chinese consumer can at least count on a blown two-liter four-cylinder with 225 hp or 250 hp. Shifting in the sedan is always done with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Don’t be misled by the enormous overhang that the Hongqi H6 ‘Cabrio’ appears to have in these drawings: that is often enormously distorted. In the Netherlands, Hongqi only sells the electric e-HS9 for the time being, but more is on the way.
