Honor 200 Pro / Specialist not only in attractive portraits

The main attraction of this upper mid-range smartphone is an excellent OLED display, cameras that allow you to take portraits as if they were taken in a studio, long battery life, 512 GB of storage space and a relatively powerful chipset.

The longer edges of the display and the back wall are pleasantly rounded. The back wall has a slightly matte surface, so it does not catch fingerprints. However, the texture of the surface is very fine, so the back wall is quite slippery, but not so much as if it were completely smooth. The manufacturer declares resistance to water and dust according to the requirements of the IP54 standard, which in practice means resistance to splashing water. You can insert two nano SIM cards into the slot, while eSIM support is a matter of course. The manufacturer did not forget about the IR diode either, so you can use your smartphone to control your home electronics.

The OLED display with a diagonal of 6.78″ and a resolution of 2700 × 1224 pixels reaches, according to the manufacturer’s data, a peak brightness of up to 4000 nits, so viewing HDR content and using hoc even in direct sunlight is not a problem. The backlight brightness control uses PWM, but for very high frequency of almost 4 kHz, which the eye has no chance to notice. I have to praise the small radius of rounding of the longer sides, which is an excellent compromise between the attractive design and the small distortion of the image in the rounded part. Thanks to the 100% coverage of the cinematographic color gamut, you will not only gamers but also regular users will appreciate the 120 Hz refresh rate, for example when scrolling the content. The oval opening with two lenses becomes an integral part of the information widget with the marketing name Magic Capsule. In the lower part of the display there is a fingerprint sensor working on the optical principle, it is reliable and does not interfere with slightly creamed hands.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, where the letter sv stands for the “slim” version, is a good compromise when the designers sacrificed a bit of performance in favor of long battery life. However, you will not feel any performance deficit not only in common applications, but even in most demanding games. Storage with a capacity of 512 GB provides enough space for videos recorded in the supported 4K@30fps resolution and also for a sufficient supply of multimedia entertainment.

The battery with a capacity of 5200 mAh can last two days of normal use or a day of relatively intensive use with a dynamic setting of the refresh rate of the display, with a fixed setting of 60 Hz, the duration is even longer, typically by 20%. The smartphone supports 100W wired charging, 66W wireless charging and 5W reverse charging, both wired and wireless. I charged the smartphone from 8% to full capacity in 45 minutes with a laptop power source capable of supplying 120 W.

The back wall is dominated by an oval platform with three lenses. Both the main camera with a slightly wide-angle lens and the telephoto lens with 2.5x zoom have sensors with a resolution of 50 megapixels. The 112˚ ultra-wide lens camera has a 12-megapixel sensor. The quality of the images is very good, and thanks to the combination of four physical pixels into one image, the main camera can in most cases cope well with images in the evening and at night, as well as when taking pictures in problematic lighting conditions, for example in backlight. The resulting resolution of such shots is 12.5 Mpx. In the evening and at night, I recommend preferring the main camera to the ultra-wide-angle camera if possible. The latter almost always provides quality shots in good lighting conditions, but falls short in evening shots under street lighting. The ultra-wide-angle camera also has autofocus, so it can also be used for close-up macro shots. The telephoto lens with 2.5x optical zoom has a 50-megapixel sensor and relatively effective optical stabilization, as possible hand shake is much more noticeable at a longer focal length.

When taking portraits, I recommend trying the AI filters, which were created in collaboration with the French photography studio Harcourt. I especially liked the black and white portraits. The 50 Mpx sensor also has a front selfie camera. When shooting selfie videos, keep in mind that this camera does not have optical image stabilization.

The sound reproduction is stereophonic, relatively high-quality for occasional listening, but it does not abound in low tones, you can’t even talk about bass in smartphones in general, you can hear a little distortion at higher volumes. I definitely recommend headphones for listening to music or watching movies.

PROS, CONS:

+ Design, performance, excellent portrait mode, wireless and reverse wireless charging, battery life
– Sometimes embarrassing quality of evening and night shots
