OR Honor revealed the series Magic7 with a new chipset, even bigger batteries, faster charging, more durable bodies and more.
Both the Honor Magic7 and Magic7 Pro are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and harness the power of the NPU for a variety of AI tasks ranging from digital assistant to camera processing improvements.
The big upgrade on the Honor Magic7 Pro is the 200MP telephoto camera, replacing the already impressive 180MP camera on the Magic6 Pro. The new sensor is quite large – 1/1.4” is “main camera” stuff for some other flagships – and sits behind a 68mm lens. This provides a comfortable 3x zoom, which extends up to 100x with digital zoom.
The main camera remains the same with a 50MP 1/1.3” sensor and variable aperture (f/1.4-f/2.0), plus OIS. The ultra-wide camera is essentially the same, with a 50MP sensor and a 12mm f/2.0 (122°) lens that can focus just a few centimeters away to take macro photos.
The front camera still has a 50MP sensor and a wide 90° (f/2.0) lens. The pill-shaped notch holds it and the 3D face scanner for secure biometric unlocking.
The ultrasonic fingerprint reader it has also works in the dark and is integrated into the 6.8″ LTPO OLED screen (1-120 Hz) with a resolution of 1,280 x 2,800 px and 10-bit colors (Dolby Vision). Peak brightness can be 1,600 nits, but HDR content can reach up to 5,000 nits. All this light is mastered by reducing the intensity of high frequency PWM (4,320 Hz). The screen is not flat, but “micro quad curved”.
The battery inside the Pro has been bumped up to 5,850mAh, and it supports 100W wired and 80W wireless charging, compared to 80W/66W for the Magic6.
The Honor Magic7 also features an LTPO OLED (1-120 Hz) display, a 6.78” flat screen this time (1,264 x 2,800 px). This model also switches to an ultrasonic fingerprint reader.
The simple loses the amazing telephoto lens unit, but the rest is essentially the same. The telephoto here is a 50MP 68mm unit. with OIS (3x optical, up to 50x digital zoom); It’s paired with a 50MP main (1/1.3″ sensor, f/1.9 fixed aperture) and a 50MP ultra-wide (122° with macro mode). The selfie camera has a 50MP sensor and a 90° lens.
The Magic7 has a third-generation Honor Qinghai Lake battery, but there is no mention of Silicon-Carbon. The new phone has a 5,650 mAh battery and supports the same fast charging as the Pro at 100W wired and 80W wireless (from 66W/ 55W).
The Magic6 didn’t have a dust or water resistance rating, the Magic6 Pro had IP68. But Magic7 and Magic7 Pro are more durable with IP69 (resistance to hot water jets).
It’s great that the basic model is on par with the Pro in so many things – chipset, most cameras, battery tech, waterproofing. Satellite connectivity is included, but since it’s based on the Beidou system, it’ll probably only be available in China.
The two Magic7 models are available for pre-order today, and Honor will start selling them on November 8. The vanilla Honor Magic7 starts at CNY 4,500 for the base 12/256GB model (this converts to $630/€585/₹53,000. There are several upgrade options: 12/512GB for CNY4,800, 16/512GB for CNY4,800, 16/512GB for 12/256GB and 5.1GB for CNY 5,500.
The Honor Magic7 Pro starts at CNY 5,700 for a 12/256GB model ($800/€740/₹67,250). They are also available in 16/512GB for CNY 6,200 and 16GB/1TB for CNY 6,700.
