Hospital Directors’ Council Seeks Survival Strategy Regarding Medical School Increase

(Health Korea News / Park Won-jin) As the hospital industry is complaining of a serious crisis due to the government’s increase in medical school enrollment, hospital groups are working on survival strategies.

The Korean Hospital Directors Association announced on the 20th that it will hold the ‘Korean Hospital Directors Association 2024 Fall Academic Conference’ titled ‘Specialization Strategy for Regional Small and Medium-sized Hospitals’ at 8:30 AM on Sunday, October 27th in the Grand Ballroom on the 2nd floor of the The K Hotel Seoul in Seoul.

The reason the council set the theme of this academic conference as ‘Specialization Strategy for Regional Small and Medium-sized Hospitals’ is interpreted as being because the aftershock caused by the government’s push to increase the number of medical schools is that strong.

Lee Sang-woon, Chairman of the Korean Hospital Directors Association (Director of Ilsan Rehabilitation Hospital in Gyeonggi Province) said on the 20th, “An unexpected storm has shaken the medical system, rapidly changing the paradigm of our country’s medicine, and reducing the room for maneuver of hospitals that are called upon to provide the best possible treatment.” He added, “The 2024 Fall Academic Conference was organized to find key survival strategies in this rapid paradigm shift.”

The council plans to focus on specializing small and medium-sized hospitals at this fall academic conference and present a solution to member hospitals.

The chairman said, “I pay tribute to all the doctors who are solving the health problems of patients coming into the clinic during these difficult times and overcoming the difficulties that the hospital is facing,” and added, “I hope that this academic conference will be the key to overcoming this difficult national crisis.”

Reflecting this hope, the chairman plans to prepare this year’s fall academic conference with rich content that all doctors, including small and medium-sized hospital directors, frontline private practitioners, and public servants, should know.

First, we will look into the problems and improvement measures of our country’s specialized hospital system, and then look back at the current and future direction of our country’s small and medium-sized hospitals through cases of the positive functions and problems of our country’s specialized hospitals, and overseas cases of specialized hospitals.
