AS Roma, led by long-time BVB defender Mats Hummels, is looking for a new coach for the second time this season. For the second time, the name Edin Terzic is at the top of the list. Is it now becoming concrete?
AS Roma is preparing for an exchange with Edin Terzic, reports Sky Italia, among others, shortly after the dismissal of Ivan Juric. The Croatian only followed club idol Daniele De Rossi in mid-September, who in turn was shown the door after a bumpy start to the season despite a contract valid until 2027.
Terzic decided to leave BVB in the summer. Since then, the 42-year-old has been without a job as a trainer. However, he remained closely connected to football: Terzic repeatedly watched Borussia’s home games and most recently worked as a TV expert for “Amazon Prime” in the Champions League. Nevertheless, he was open to a new challenge.
The man from Menden was already considered a candidate in the Eternal City after De Rossi was released. As the “Gazzetta dello Sport” reported, he is said to have ultimately rejected Roma because the goals he had formulated did not match his own.
It is possible that both sides will now come to the table again. According to transfer journalist Rudy Galetti, Edin Terzic is “at the top of the list,” as he wrote on the short message service X.
Hot speculation surrounding Hummels’ club in Rome
Edin Terzic is far from the only name being traded. The rumor mill is actually boiling over in Rome. According to Sky Italia, Frank Lampard (at Chelsea until summer 2023) is also an option among foreign coaches.
The name currently most hotly debated is another: Roberto Mancini, who recently left his post as Saudi Arabia’s national coach. The personnel is certainly explosive, as Mancini was active both as a player and as a coach for arch-rivals Lazio.
Rome’s technical director Florent Ghisolfi was asked by the broadcaster “DAZN” on Sunday evening about a possible commitment of the star trainer, but replied evasively: “Now is the time to make the best decisions in peace.” Instead of addressing the rumors in more detail, he took the opportunity to thank Ivan Juric for his work.
Coach icon Claudio Ranieri, Massimiliano Allegri and Rudi Garcia are also named as candidates. A possible return of Daniele De Rossi is also part of the speculation in the Italian media.
