The series “House of the Dragon,” produced by HBO and broadcast in Germany on Sky, is the most pirated TV series released on illegal download sites in 2024.
Like the portal Torrentfreak.com reported, the “Game of Thrones” prequel replaced the computer game adaptation “The Last of Us,” which topped the charts last year. Amazon’s The Boys is a distant second, according to the report, while Disney’s Shōgun is the hottest newcomer.
Last year’s winner only in subsequent ranks
For several years in a row, the long-running series “Game of Thrones” topped the list, but that dominance ended after its final season five years ago. In subsequent years, Disney+ releases filled the gap, with Wandavision and The Mandalorian the winners in 2020 and 2021, respectively. HBO Max has regained the title with the “Game of Thrones” prequel “House of the Dragon” in 2022.

While House of the Dragon faced stiff competition from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power two years ago, it secured the top spot without much effort this year. Amazon’s Tolkien-inspired series didn’t even make it into the top 10. Amazon did, however, make it into the top 3 with The Boys in second place, followed by Disney’s historical drama series Shōgun.

The basic idea of torrenting is to share large files with other users over the Internet. So-called “torrenting” is actually legal as long as downloading or uploading the corresponding content is legal. BitTorrent traffic represents only a small part of the piracy landscape. Most people today use streaming sites and services, which generally do not report viewership statistics.
