A three-month pregnant housewife has mysteriously committed suicide in Maheshkhali. The name of the deceased housewife is Jisma Moni alias Kajal (17).
The incident took place at 2 pm on January 2 (Thursday) at the house of the bride’s father-in-law in an area called Tin Tula Gach in Lambaghona village of Chhota Maheshkhali Union of the upazila.
The mother of the slain housewife claimed that her daughter was killed in a planned manner by her in-laws to demand dowry.
Local residents said that at 2 pm today, the door of his younger sister-in-law was closed at home. At some point, after shouting for a while, the neighbors broke the window and found her hanging dead body.
But the victim’s mother Hamida Begum said that my daughter Jisma Monir’s Swami Robayat alias Rubel (25) asked her for 20,000 rupees last week to pay off the association’s debt. Besides, my daughter said that her mother-in-law stopped talking to her because she did not pay 5000 rupees for winter cake at her father-in-law’s house.
In-laws keep killing my daughter and calling it suicide as they are unable to give money and winter cake.
He also said that my daughter got married to Robaiyat alias Rubel seven months ago. My in-laws didn’t let me meet my daughter after marriage. My daughter was three months pregnant.
The house of the deceased housewife’s father is in Balur Dale area of the same area. The police recovered the body and took it to the police station to prepare a report.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Maheshkhali police station Kaichar Hamid said that the body was recovered and brought to the police station. The body will be taken to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Further action will be taken after the post-mortem report.
