How can Denmark and Australia reduce the global CO2 footprint?

A Danish business delegation with 10 experts in the field of CO2 reduction, who all work with the capture, storage and utilization of CO2 (CCUS), is traveling to Australia to establish connections with the Australian CCUS ecosystem.

The trip, which is organized by ATV and Green Hub Denmark and supported by the Danish Energy Agency, aims to promote cooperation and knowledge exchange in a time when climate challenges call for innovative solutions and international cooperation.

With increasing global focus on sustainability and climate neutrality, both Denmark and Australia face many of the same challenges and opportunities.

The recently signed strategic partnership agreement between the two countries underscores a common goal of promoting investment and trade in green technology.

By exchanging knowledge and resources, Denmark and Australia can play a central role in the global transition to CO₂ reduction and at the same time strengthen both their own and each other’s positions in an increasingly tough global competitive situation.

The delegation will meet leading experts from the vast and naturally rich country and gain insight into the latest technological and scientific trends. The Danish technology leaders must, among other things, meet with government representatives, universities and innovative companies. Focus areas include research into CO₂ capture, transport and green fuels, etc.

A meeting between the innovation environments

The mission in Australia is therefore also to build a bridge between two strong innovation environments. Denmark has a well-established CCUS ecosystem, while Australia invests massively in critical technologies. Together, we can develop sustainable solutions that not only benefit our own countries, but can also be used globally.

Therefore, the delegation will not only investigate necessary technological competences, but also investigate opportunities for system export based on the experience base that has been built up in Denmark around symbioses, sector coupling and utilization of side streams from industrial production.

Australia, like several other countries in the region, has an interest in freeing itself from dependence on Chinese technological dominance, and Denmark must both find its own positions of strength within technological development and work cooperatively for a stronger common Europe that can take the battle with the USA and China in a fierce technology race.

After the mission in Australia, Green Hub Denmark and ATV will present learnings from the trip and explore the possibilities for future cooperation.

A mission for CO2 reduction

For several years, ATV has worked with Denmark’s CCUS initiatives by building a bridge between science and business, among other things through conferencesin CCUS fact-finding mission til Canada with a focus on CO2 capture and utilization and a Mission Lab on CO2 reduction. The latter course was part of ATV’s ambitious project Guide to a resilient Darnmark,

In Guide to a resilient Denmark, ATV gathers a broad group of key actors for technological development and implementation in focused mission-oriented workshops. These must accelerate and support the transition towards a fossil-free, bio-based and digitally supported future.

ATV is an independent, member-driven think tank. The academy works to ensure that Denmark is one of the five leading Science & Engineering regions in the world – for the benefit of future generations. To make this goal a reality, ATV implements activities that create concrete value for companies and for society. By virtue of its 800 members, the Academy has special prerequisites for recommendations and knowledge from projects to be used and implemented in companies and knowledge environments.
