How can we avoid scams involving foreign calls? –

They mainly try to trick people with foreign numbers, such as calls from the Vatican, who incur huge costs when they call back.

Phone scams have become more and more common these days, and one of the latest and fast-spreading methods is the “wangiri” scam, which originated in Japan. The essence of this is that fraudsters call their victims from an unknown foreign number, for example a Vatican (+39) number.

The call is quickly dropped, so the phone screen shows the number as a missed call. The aim of the fraudsters is for curious or inattentive people to call this number back, the cost of which will be borne by the victim. In addition, during the callback, the line may not be disconnected for a long time, and this way the fraudsters can extract even more money from the victim.

It is important to remember that missed calls and incoming SMS do not in themselves mean financial damage until a callback is made. Fraudsters therefore take advantage of curiosity and inattention to cheat as much money as possible from unsuspecting people.

In order to prevent it, it is worth treating foreign numbers with reservations, and if you receive a call from an unknown number, you should first search for the number on the Internet. If it has been used for fraud in the past, it is very likely that there will be information about it on the Internet, so it is easy to avoid fraud.
