For its fourth test series of 2024 Green NCAP analyzed seven cars: two electric (Jeep Avenger and Honda e:Ny1), four petrol or mild hybrid petrol (Honda Civic, Skoda Karoq, MINI Countryman and Subaru Crosstrek) and one mild hybrid diesel (Mercede GLC).

The former conquered 5 placethe Honda Civic, the Mercedes GLC and the Skoda Karoq three, the mild hybrid petrol MINI Countryman two and a half and the Subaru Crosstrek two stars.

Maximum score for the two electric ones

The Jeep Avenger with 100% electric engine obtained the 5 place and a average score of 97% thanks to low energy consumption in all situations and, in particular, 29 kWh/100 km in winter conditions.

The Honda e:Ny1 got the 5 place with an average score of 94%thanks to a battery with a net capacity of 58,7 kWh capable of guaranteeing a range of 380 km in normal driving conditions and a rather good energy consumption on the motorway of 27.3 kWh/100 km. The car only encountered critical issues during the test at low temperatures (-7°C).

Hybrids are also good

Moving on to more traditional fuel systems, the Honda Civic achieved an average score of 56%proving to be the best choice in terms of efficiency for those looking for an alternative to electric. In particular, based on what was declared by the European body, the system hybrid it showed its strengths during tests in real road driving conditions, earning 3 green stars.

The Mercedes GLC, the only car diesel mild hybrid of this test, according to what was declared by the institution, he obtained an average score of 55% e 3 place green demonstrating exceptional exhaust gas cleaning through the SCR after-treatment system.

The Mercedes GLC engaged in the fourth Green NCAP test series of 2024

The Skoda Karoq with the 150 HP 1.5 turbo petrol engine, however, obtained an average score of 52% and the 3 digit green demonstrating reliable management of pollutants, leaving little room for further improvements in particulate emissions.

The MINI Countryman with the mild hybrid 2-litre turbo petrol engine, on the other hand, achieved an average score of 46% and the 2.5 digits green. The Anglo-German SUV, despite obtaining an insufficient score in the greenhouse gas index, demonstrated rather low fuel consumption.

Finally, the Subaru Crosstrek managed to achieve only the 2 place green and an average score of 39% due to the 2.0 liter naturally aspirated boxer petrol engine with permanent all-wheel drive which, despite the combination with the 118 V e-Boxer hybrid system and positive results in pollutant control, achieved some high values.
