Interview

The busy period of the buying season has arrived for many fashion companies. What are the brands busy with and what do they expect from the SS25 collection? An interview with David Meyer, Wholesale Manager at the Hamburg clothing brand Tom Tailor.

The fashion market is not easy at the moment. Which themes are at the top of the mainstream segment in this round of orders?

For us at Tom Tailor, continuity is central in all facets – whether it is the product, the delivery performance or the collaboration. This expectation is also reflected by our retailers.

How price sensitive is the end consumer today?

The purchasing behavior of the end consumer varies per channel, but in general we see that purchasing is more conscious and that the focus is more on the price-quality ratio.

Which price ranges are currently important to you and why?

For us it is important to have a transparent price structure in all collections and product groups, as we serve different markets with different needs. Some markets need more entry-level price segments, others prefer higher retail prices. Our goal is to justify the price structure through the product value.

How do you see retailers managing their budget?

Like-for-like we grow with most partners. Especially in the first six months of this year we saw an above average demand for repeat orders.

How do you expect SS25 to perform compared to last season?

We expect high double-digit growth.

What themes are important in the SS25 collections? What trends are crucial for Tom Tailor to respond to?

We show a diversity of different materials and textures, which we combine in outfits. In all lines we strengthen the essential programs in which we deliver consistent performance. In addition, we sell new never-out-of-stock collections with increasing purchase prices to further improve the margin of the retailers. Trends for us are casual fits with structure and linen fabrics with matching tops and pants. In terms of color, we show chalk and natural shades with pop-up colors. Everything is connected by a clear and minimalist aesthetic.

What is in demand?

Ready-to-wear with a summery approach. Especially important for these delivery dates are blouses, bermudas, light knitwear and jackets.

Are there any innovations or novelties that Tom Tailor is introducing this coming spring and summer?

Our younger line ‘Denim Tom Tailor’ brings a completely renewed denim collection to NOOS – variation in fits, well-coordinated washes and price points between 49 and 79 euros, recommended retail price. This is very well received by our customers.

Your thoughts on outerwear in SS25?

Outerwear has been an important and successful part of our collections for many years. We present updated evergreens and exciting newcomers.

How does Tom Tailor try to stay flexible given the changeable weather?

Our ready-to-wear approach takes into account collections for different weather conditions. Short-term needs, depending on the weather, can be covered through reorder programs.

Does sustainability still play a role?

Yes, sustainability is a high priority for Tom Tailor and is not a passing trend for us. With our ‘Be Part’ program, we strive for sustainable and responsible business practices in the long term. ‘Be Part’ stands for our vision and strategy for a more sustainable future and includes our responsibility towards people, the planet and our processes.
