Until when can Romanians who want to vote by mail register?
“We note that, for this year’s election of the President of Romania, until August 2, at 10:00 a.m., 1,205 voters submitted applications to vote at the polling station and 2,038 voters registered to vote by mail. Also, for the election of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, 1397 citizens submitted applications to vote at the polling station and 1923 citizens registered to vote by mail. Romanian voters domiciled or residing abroad who wish to exercise their right to vote by mail must register as mail voters, for each type of election,” reports AEP.
The Permanent Electoral Authority states that the deadline for registration as a postal voter expires 45 days before the voting date.
“In this sense, Romanian voters with domicile or residence abroad must fill in an online form, in which they must state their name, surname, personal numerical code, address of domicile or residence, e-mail address, as well as the option of transmission in country or at the diplomatic representation of the vote cast by mail. To this form, the voter must attach the scanned copy or photo of the identity document and the document proving the right of residence, issued by foreign authorities. On the other hand, Romanian voters with domicile or residence abroad who wish to exercise their right to vote at the polling station, can register in the Electoral Register as a voter abroad, for each type of election, until the expiry date of the 15 days from the start of the electoral period. The Romanian voter will fill out an online form, in which he will enter his name, surname, personal numerical code, e-mail address, town and state where he chooses to vote, to which he will attach the scanned copy or photo of the identity document. We note that a polling station can be established at the request of at least 100 citizens from the same locality or from a group of localities”, the statement states.
After completing the registration procedure on the portal, the voter will receive a verification e-mail containing a link valid for 24 hours, which must be accessed to confirm the request, otherwise the registration will not be validated. The resolution of the foreign voter’s request to vote at the polling station is done by the AEP, within 10 working days from the confirmation, by him, of the verification e-mail. The resolution of the foreign voter’s request for postal voting is done by the AEP, within five days of its confirmation of the verification e-mail.
