72% of Romanians believe that the responsibility for collecting plastic waste belongs to them, according to a WWF-Romania study.
A study carried out by WWF-Romania shows that the majority of Romanians, 72% to be exact, believe that they themselves should be responsible for collecting plastic waste from nature. Other entities mentioned by respondents include waste collection companies (64%) and town halls (61%).
However, the current perception is different: 62% of Romanians say that NGOs are the ones that deal most with collecting plastic waste, followed by citizens and collection companies.
40% of Romanians agree with financial sanctions
To limit pollution, 40% of Romanians support the imposition of financial and legal sanctions for those who cause environmental problems. Other proposed solutions include improving the education system (18%) and changing public policies (14%).
Single-use plastic remains an environmental challenge, with negative effects on wildlife, ecosystems and human health. In this context, WWF-Romania runs the “Zero Plastic Patrol” program, which involves greening and education activities in the Danube Delta and in BraČ™ov.
Plastic Overshoot Day was celebrated on September 5, which brings attention to the fact that by the end of 2025, 220 million tons of plastic will be produced, an amount that exceeds global management capacities of waste.
