All vehicles must undergo a general inspection at a certain interval to replace certain parts and fluids. Here is how many kilometers the car is serviced and how much it costs in 2025.
Each manufacturer sets a certain number of kilometers at which the car must be serviced.
But, even if the car has been sitting for a while, after a certain time you have to go with the vehicle for a service check.
When the car is serviced
Specialists recommend that the car overhaul be carried out after every 10,000 kilometers or once a year. Although, it would be ideal for this general check to be done before the winter and summer seasons, so autumn and spring.
„We can start preparing the car for the warm season as early as March. Fluids are checked, brakes are checked, oil is changed, new fuel, oil and air filters are put in, a complete check is actually done. Basically, in the fall we prepare the car for the cold season and in the spring for the warm one”, mechanic Robert Marin explained to ProMotor.
Of course, those who travel long distances by car must do this inspection more often.
What parts and fluids need to be replaced?
In general, car overhaul involves the replacement of several components:
- the air filter;
- the pollen filter;
- the oil filter;
- the fuel filter.
The used oil is also removed from the engine and replaced with clean oil.
At the same time, the air conditioning system is checked and, if necessary, it is topped up with freon.
Last but not least, winter tires must be replaced with summer ones or vice versa, depending on the season.
How much does a car overhaul cost in 2025
The cost of car overhaul in 2024 varies depending on each car and the parts that need to be replaced.
For example, the cheapest 5w30 motor oils cost about 30 lei per liter. But those who opt for a premium oil can even pay over 300 lei for a liter of lubricant.
In general, 4-6 liters of oil are needed when the technical overhaul is done. In cars that have small engines, less than 4 liters can go in, but in those over 3,000 CC you will need to take even more than 6 liters of lubricant.
„An overhaul of the Dacia Logan, of an older generation, costs around 500-600 lei. That means filters, oil changes and labor. It generally depends on the parts. For some BMW or Mercedes models, for example, the overhaul can exceed 1,500-2,000 lei. And the labor varies between 100 and 500 lei, depending on how long it takes to carry out the revision“, said Robert Marin.
In addition, at the time of the review, additional costs may arise for:
- freon charge: 150-300 lei;
- replacement of brake pads: from 50 lei/set;
- antifreeze filling: 30-50 lei.
So, the car overhaul costs in 2025, approximately, from 400-500 lei upwards. But, you must also be prepared for a number of additional costs, which could double this cost.
