How much does a negative review cost on Steam? The Russians are offering less for it than you would pay for a Big Mac

Despite the current situation in Ukraine, the Ukrainian video game studio GSC Game World managed to release the game STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. The game was released on November 20 for PC and Xbox Series X/S consoles, and almost immediately after its release, it became a thorn in the side of many Russian trolls, who offer players a monetary reward for a negative review on Steam.

People living in Russia have limited access to the game due to the political situation. Its purchase and distribution is subject to strict measures in Russia, and the authorities there are considering prosecuting those who purchased the game on Russian territory for direct support and promotion of terrorism.

Pro-Russian trolls who cannot officially buy and play STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl are trying to smear the game in other ways.

Extra income that won’t even buy one a Big Mac

Already subreddit game Stalker, a post appeared showing an offer of a cash reward for writing a negative review on Steam. If the offer is true, pro-Russian groups offer players 350 rubles (current exchange rate ± 76.5 CZK) for a negative review, or 450 rubles (current exchange rate ± 98.3 CZK) for a bad review mentioning various bugs and poor optimization.

The game is currently rated by 35,387 users on Steam, who agree with the Mostly Positive rating (78%). So far, the efforts of pro-Russian trolls do not appear to be particularly effective. Meanwhile, developers on the X network boasted 1 million copies sold and an influx of new players through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
