The long history of the Hotel Passalacqua began in the 18th century when one of the properties that belonged to Pope Innocent XI, this gigantic villa overlooking Lake Como, was expanded. The project was led and carried out by the Milanese architect Carlo Felice Soave on behalf of the nobleman Andrea Lucini-Passalacqua, to whom the villa owes its initial name. One of the rooms, the music room, was built in neoclassical style at the behest of the son of Count Passalcqua, Alessandro, a friend of Vincenzo Bellini.
