Google has arrived this year with the Pixel 9 series of smartphones, which came out at a very similar time to the competing series iPhone 16. However, this move seems to be successful, as the sales figures speak of the acceptance of the novelty by customers. According to the latest report from of Nikkei we find out what the real costs are to produce the latest flagships Pixel 9 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro. It is important to note that both are sold in the market for approx 1 100 – 1 200 €depending on storage space. It informs about the report AndroidAuthority.
Parts for the Pixel 9 Pro cost around 400 dollars (370 euros). The BOM (Bill of materials) represents the costs of all components necessary for the production of the device and serves as a basic indicator of production costs. An interesting fact is that the most expensive part of the Pixel 9 Pro is čip Tensor G4, made directly by Google, which costs 80 dollars (74 euros). In second place is the Samsung M14 display with a price of 75 dollars (69 euros), while the camera, which is one of the strengths of the Pixel model, costs 61 dollars (56 euros).
Is the Pixel 9 Pro really cheaper to manufacture than its predecessor?
While the BOM cost for the Pixel 9 Pro is said to be 11% lower as with the Pixel 8 Pro, it’s worth emphasizing that this is a brand new model. The true successor of the Pixel 8 Pro is the Pixel 9 Pro XL, so the comparison should be directed in that direction. Even so, this fact has already managed to stir up conversations on social networks about how Google sucks its customers.
In case iPhone 16 Pro from Apple the BOM is estimated to be approx 568 dollars (528 euros), which represents a slight increase over the iPhone 15 Pro. The M14 display is again one of the most expensive components at $110 (€102), while the camera costs around $91 (€84). The biggest item is the A18 Pro chip, which Apple costs up to 135 dollars (125 euros), and this is a significant difference compared to the Tensor chip from Google. The price difference in used chipsets is therefore huge.

However, it is important to remember that the BOM only includes costs of individual components. The final price of smartphones also includes expenses for development, marketing, logistics and distribution. It is well known that Apple does not invest as much money in its marketing as other companies such as Google, Xiaomi, or Samsung. So it is true that he can do it on this item save enough which is then reflected in the price of the equipment.
