There is almost no employee in Serbia who does not ask himself from time to time how much his pension will be i most people only find out at age 65 what their income will be in old age. In addition to the amount of salary during the working life, another important factor that plays a role is the length of service.
The calculation of the PIO fund implicitly implies that the workers during their 40 years of service had relatively the same position in society (their salary compared to the average salary). Those who worked for a salary of 90,000 dinars, which is the average salary of teachers in schools, their pension will be about 50,000 dinars, or about 55,000 dinars next year after the increase.
Educators have been fighting for better working conditions for several years, primarily for higher salaries. The education unions had signed an agreement with the government that the salary of novice teachers would be equal to the average salary in Serbia by the end of this year, and their salary should have been increased by about 13 percent (currently, the salary of a teacher is 86,456 dinars).

Doctors’ pensions are less than the average salary
Among them are specialist doctors who work in state hospitals, for slightly less than 150,000. Upon retirement, they would have 90,000 dinars available per month, so it is not surprising that doctors who have acquired all the conditions to enjoy their homes are still working in health institutions.
Some judges broke the psychological limit of 100,000
Judges of misdemeanor courts in Serbia earn about 120,000 dinars per month, judges of basic courts about 160,000, salaries in higher courts are about 200,000, and in the Supreme Court 230,000 dinars (judges in Serbia earn less than their colleagues in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro).
The proposal of the Forum of Judges of Serbia is to amend the Law on Judges by determining the amount of the pension of a judge who has performed these duties for a minimum of 20 years, in the amount of the last salary minus one dinar.

Pension calculator – math for advanced students
The pension is calculated as the product of personal and general points. In order to get a personal point, it is necessary to calculate a personal coefficient. We arrive at it by dividing the annual salary by the average salary for the corresponding year, and then dividing the sum of these amounts by the years of service.
When calculating, it should be borne in mind that from 1970 to 2002 the salary is calculated in the net amount, while from 2003 the salary is taken in the gross amount.
When the personal coefficient is calculated, it must be multiplied by the years of service. Thus, a personal point is obtained, which is then multiplied by the general point, which is adjusted every year.
New conditions for retirement
The retirement age is being raised again, but only for women. From January 1, 2025, a new condition applies for them, namely that they must be 63 years and 10 months old.
The retirement limit will be equalized in 2032, that is, it will increase every year for women, so that in a little more than seven years, both men and women will be able to stop working at the age of 65.
The Pension and Disability Insurance Act was amended in 2014, and since then the conditions under which women can retire have changed every year.
