How much would you pay for this rare Honda S2000 CR?

Honda ended production of the S2000 in 2009 and even though 15 years have passed since then, the Japanese roadster is still impressing its owners. Two years before its abolition, and more specifically at the New York show in April 2007, Honda presented its Club Racer (CR) version, which was the first version of equipment other than the one available on the model.

Changes to the S2000 CR include a shorter handlebar rack, upgraded exhaust, black studs, new -darker- 17-inch alloy wheels, with 255/40 Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires, “transparent” side indicators and stiffer suspension. It also wears a new body kit, which consisted of a redesigned front splitter and a large spoiler.

The soft folding roof has been replaced with a hard top, which was optional on the S2000 but became the hallmark of the CR version. Honda has also upgraded the gear lever, which is 12.6mm. lower and reduces the shift travel by 6% compared to the “conventional” S2000, but increases the shift force by 10%.

Inside, the S2000 CR was only available with black and yellow alcantara trim, while there were also fake carbon details on the center console. Also, there was an indicator on the instrument panel that showed when the engine reached its peak performance.

Finally, to reduce weight and lower the car’s center of gravity, there was no spare wheel, while air conditioning and audio system were optional. Thus, the weight was reduced by 41 kg, compared to the regular S2000.

Mechanically, as you know it wears the wonderful four-cylinder naturally aspirated 2.0-liter VTEC engine, producing 240 hp and 220 Nm of torque, with the rev-cutter activated at 9,000 rpm, having the unreal ratio -for 16 years ago- of 120 hp/liter. The head of the S2000 project, Shigeru Uehara, had stated that the CR version was positioned between the Type S and the hypothetical Type R, a version that Honda never officially presented.

Production of the S2000 CR was limited to 699 cars, of which 668 in 2008 and 31 in 2009. Of these, 200 were painted in Apex Blue Pearl, 140 in Yellow Pearl, 269 in black (Berlina Black) and the 90s in white (Grand Prix White).

This particular one is from 2008, painted blue and has 5,597 km on it. With the ad still needing 10 hours to complete, it has fetched $75,000 so far.
