Many people know that you can get expensive fines if you travel over the speed limit. If you drive too fast, you can even lose your driver’s license. This is most common when you have driven between 31 and 40 kilometers per hour over the speed limit, it leads to a two-month ban. But in case of more serious speeding, the blocking time can be longer, according to The Swedish Transport Administration.
But what if you drive too slowly?

How slowly can you drive?
In the traffic regulations, it appears that you must not drive excessively slowly, but exactly where the limit is is not known. At the same time, it is forbidden to drive slow-moving vehicles, i.e. vehicles that are not allowed to drive more than 40 kilometers per hour, on motorways and motorways.
“A driver must not, without valid reason, drive at an excessively low speed, brake suddenly or in any other way obstruct the driving of other drivers.”, it says in the law.
– Those who drive very slowly probably do not think that in the worst case it can lead to dangerous situations in traffic. This does not mean that you have to actually increase the speed, but it is important to pay attention and not obstruct or disturb the traffic, says Markus Ljungbladhead of claims at Gjensidige Försäkring Sweden, to Carp.

What is the penalty for slow driving?
– It is actually the case that you can also be fined if you drive well below the speed limit and slower than is appropriate on the route in question, says Karolin Bernåshead of claims at Gjensidige Försäkring Sweden to Carup.
Violation of the rules can lead to a fine of up to SEK 500.
