How TikTok celebrated the victory of C.G11 in the first battle for Cotroceni

The world went out to vote to sanction a speech by the prime minister that referred to Romanians working abroad. Words attributed to Marcel Ciolacu – such as those from the diaspora are uneducated and unqualified – which, however, are not found in official positions, created a harsh wave of antipathy. In parallel, a wave of sympathy appeared after thousands of comments and posts singled out the candidate Călin Georgescu – the man who conveyed exactly what “Romania on TikTok” wanted to hear.

After the announcement of the results of the presidential elections, virtual Romania went into celebration: hundreds of clips show people – from real Romania or the diaspora – celebrating or putting the stamp, in the polling station, on “The Chosen One!”. I mean Georgescu.

“With an open heart, we look towards freedom/ We vote for Că-lin Geor-ges-cu/ Diaspora calls out he is his/ A righteous president/ Lover of the people, he pulls us out of the mud/ Towards a new future”. Guitar and violin chords plus other words: “(…) we don’t want lies anymore, we want honor/we want a leader who feels the greatest pain (…)”. The romantic anthem is the musical background for hundreds of clips in which Romanians show how they voted. In the images you can see ballots and middle fingers raised over the border with the PSD logo and the name of Marcel Ciolacu. The stamps swing over the page and pass to the right, where the Georgescu independent sign is. Over which the blue “Voted” is pressed.

Films of this type are the best in the celebration of the Romanians in the world of TikTok, of those who voted for Călin Georgescu and against Marcel Ciolacu. Most “posts of happiness” contain formulas in which they remember the relatives of the prime minister or the death of those who voted for other candidates besides CG 11 – Călin Georgescu, position 11.

A post containing the prime minister’s stuttering in a TV show has gone viral. “I think, I think, I think…” the voice of the PSD candidate can be heard, followed by the voice of the author of the TikTok clip: “I think, I think I’m getting … keep me in those who vote for you. Get in….mine from here!”. The background sound is used in hundreds of TikTok clips – explicitly – in which the authors show either their voting attendance stamps, or how they choose, in the polling station, the independent candidate Georgescu.

A resident of Romania on TikTok also shows his face in a speech in which he tries to explain why the diaspora chose Călin Georgescu. The man is young, he doesn’t seem to have skipped 30 years, he’s behind the wheel while filming, his eyes are more on the phone than on the road. He’s wearing a hoodie from a courier company, he probably works in Italy from how much his speech is peppered with the obscene “shit”. The speech begins with personal comments to a TV producer: “Oh, you pig! Damn me! Me, the traitor that you are! Have you no shame, ordinary pig and thief? How do you mean Mr. Georgescu was elected by bots? Those people who are there, in the top, were chosen by us, the Romanians, they got there based on votes. It ended up like this because the Romanian is fed up, he doesn’t want these thieves anymore, and these idiots and the unorganized people who wandered from one party to another, you damn fools.” The man is still biting the phone and almost foaming at the mouth: “What, my, have the trolls come to vote? No, me, we came! Hoooooo!”. Screaming alone in the car, the CG 11 sympathizer closes the broadcast with rude curses about how and why he chose the independent Georgescu.

Who is the wife of Călin Georgescu. Cristela is a holistic educator and promotes anti-feminism: “Don’t be pantaloonish”

Another resident of Romania from TikTok, caught somewhere in the West, also appears in the frame, along with others who hide their faces. He laughs out loud: “Ciolacule, from the diaspora, father. Keep it up dad.” The frame shows a parking lot of vans – “Come here, my colleague, Ciolacule, I’ll put you in here, driver.” Colleagues laugh, the author closes his speech: “…-your neck and the Christians hold me!”

Finally, – older, but now viral, for the holiday – one, in a parking lot of a courier company in Germany, is doing an opinion poll: “Who are you voting with?”. The answers of the Romanian colleagues are as if learned. “Călin Georgescu!”, flows from five or six drivers. There are two more ladies – also driving courier vans – who prefer Lasconi, but there is one who stutters: “I vote for George Călin”. The author quickly closes the video: “Well, you’re stupid!”.

With hate, at the polling station

With a black mask pulled over his eyes, a fat guy in his 40s laughs his head off: “Shit, ha, ha, ha, Shit! Did I tell you that you end up on a dump truck? I told you! Now you have a little more. Come on, if you can’t handle it, I’ll find you a wheelbarrow. So help you God!” The filming is from the cabin of a Western truck, the man is from virtual Romania. There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of the same type – but they blame the prime minister “because he made us unqualified”. Around noon, another “viral” appears. There is the face of the prime minister and the photo of the president of the PNL, Nicolae Ciucă, above which is the message: “what the diaspora sings after we vote”. The audio begins with the mane: “And, boss, give me a G major. Yes, yes, yes. And: Everlasting memory, eternal memory. Remember them forever. Let’s make it special for our brothers…”

From Sweden, but also in TikTok’s Romania, one shows some tools: “Ciolacule? Look! Unqualified? Come to Sweden, I’ll give you a pickaxe or a shovel. Come on, that’s good wages, so unskilled. That you won’t be a craftsman. Have you seen what the unqualified do?”

Full of spite, a woman who doesn’t look over 30 years old films the rain falling on a town in the North. She’s blonde, make-up, long nails painted white, expensive jacket and car. The woman also films her baby in the car seat and spills her guts: “See, Siolacule? do you see the weather do you see the baby It’s been raining. I took the baby out, I wouldn’t have gone out, but I’m going out to vote against you. Don’t win!”. The woman is offended after hearing how the prime minister insulted the diaspora, so she decided to vote. Close the transmission dry: “See Ciolacule? Stupid!”. The Tik Tok post has now boomed, in celebration of CG11 followers; there are thousands of people applauding her. And most write only three words: “Călin Georgescu president”.

Camp CG 11 celebrates through work

Georgescu’s world on TikTok is curious: it is an amalgam of posts with messages on the background of a patriotic song and propaganda similar to the clips from the Kremlin. The posts celebrating the first place in the presidential race come by the hundreds from the diaspora. “On December 8 we are voting for Călin Georgescu!” is the message passing through TikTok’s Romania, picked up by many accounts. The soundtrack is a line from a film by Sergiu Nicolaescu. Amza Pellea is heard: “I kept only one law! Let us never bend our knees! In front of no one!”. It’s a line from the movie “The Dacians”. In the same way, also with “attention to the future”, there are dozens of other type messages of people who want CG 11 at Cotroceni: a sound amalgam of band songs, curse words and rough hip hop.

From the “centre”, perhaps, from the candidate, come – they are picked up and forwarded wholesale – posts with stilts. Which taps every important “branch” of voters on TikTok. In one, the candidate speaks to military personnel, reservists, or retirees. In sober costume, the independent recalls the rights of those in the defense system and in the public order system. He regularly presses, with skepticism, words like “honor”, “moral values of the military”, “respect”, sprinkled abundantly in the speech, and thanks the “defenders of the homeland”. The effect is clear: there are thousands of messages of support. From real accounts.

The Romanian celebration of TikTok continues through work. A post with clear substrate is spun. Against the background of a Byzantine hymn, images of churches and priests flow; the message is both written and spoken: “orthodoxy was the cornerstone of the existence of the Romanian peasant. Because the life of the Romanian peasant was supported by the grace of the Holy Spirit…”. At this point the message is paused for a few seconds. And against the background of the saints appears CG 11. In the church, worshiping. “…So we must be strong!”, continues the message with the independent Georgescu in front of the icons, complemented by images of young girls in traditional costumes. The clip is very similar to sequences from Vladimir Putin’s recent election campaign. The same type of sequences can be found in another clip “of joy” – Călin Georgescu openly declares that he is the president of Romania, and in the CG 11 images he is riding or on the tatami, in a kimono showing a judo technique.

Finally, with over 2.5 million views, is the message of maximum joy: Baba Vanga predicted that CG 11 will be the president of the real Romania! The “prophecy”, picked up by tens of thousands of accounts, says that a candidate – “a good man, faithful and hard as a rock” – unknown to anyone – will win the election and “rule this people with an iron fist” . “This great leader will stop the fall of the Romanian nation and he, through his wisdom, will elevate it to the top of the states on the globe. Also under his leadership, Romania will reach the greatest territorial expansion in its entire existence and achieve the greatest economic prosperity”, says the clip promoting CG 11 and Baba Vanga the prophetess!

The post also mentions that Georgescu will achieve important victories. In the thousands of comments, no one is laughing. “My family and I, 16 members, voted for Călin G. The Diaspora votes for Călin Georgescu”, comments Adrian Anghel, a resident of Romania on TikTok. Another 202 congratulate him.
