Thanks to macOS Sequoia it is now possible to adjust windows more quickly, we show you how to do it and also an extra tip for those Macs that no longer update to this version
There was a outstanding debt from Apple to Mac usersa debt that was paid until this year with the launch of macOS Sequoia and a function that would natively allow Mac windows to be adjusted without using any third-party app. Best of all, Apple thought about the different ways in which its users could distribute the windows of their apps, so here we will tell you everything about it.
If you don’t have macOS Sequoia you still need to update
It’s a complete shame that Apple didn’t think of this simple native feature in previous versions of macOS. Those users who found an alternative (which we will describe later) will have to make do with that.
macOS Sequoia 15 makes it possible to arrange and/or adjust windows on the Mac in different ways. You can drag a window to the edge using the Option key, use the green button on each window, use the menu bar or, failing that, do it using keyboard shortcuts. Next, we will explain how to do it step by step and in different ways.
Adjust the window by dragging it to an edge
- With the pointer and using the trackpad or mouse, Press and hold part of a window edge and move it to the left or right side (according to the position you want it to occupy)
- Release the pressure when the highlighted area
This is ideal when we have two windows and we want to divide our main screen into two main tasks.
Adjust the window with the Option key
This method is the same as the previous one but with the subtle difference that it is faster to accommodate a screen to avoid taking it to the edge.
- Hold down the Option key
- Drag a window to the left or right side
- Release the window when the highlighted area appears
As you could see when doing so, the method in question is faster. The following methods are designed in cases where we have more than two windowss and we want to distribute the space correctly.
Adjust your windows with the green macOS button
This button is renewed in macOS Sequoia and now it will allow you to distribute all your windows in terms of size and position. In an option that will now be more discreet, you can accommodate full screen according to your preferences.
- Hover over the green button in any window in macOS
- Select one of the available options: from arranging at the top or bottom to the middle or from the left side to the right, in addition to positioning more windows (up to 4 at a time)
- And you press the Option key while holding the pointer on the green button you will notice other types of provisions that can work for you from adjusting the window to the center, adjusting multiple windows or filling the desktop with a single screen.
Use the macOS menu to fit a window
This option is the most complete of all although you will have to analyze which is the best position that suits the series of windows you have open.
- Before clicking on the menu, make sure you have an active window by clicking on the side or on the app directly in the Dock
- Select the Window option in the menu bar
- Then Move and Resizeselect the most convenient option
The options you saw in the previous method are complemented in this new menu, you can adjust the active window into halves or quarters, adjust multiple windows, center it, fill the desktop or invoke the window in full screen.
I don’t have macOS Sequoia, what can I do to have these options?
Several versions of macOS ago I discovered a very interesting app called Magnet. It is the perfect complement that should have existed in macOS natively. Fortunately, Apple has not yet removed it from its App Store although there would be a compelling reason to think that It is an app that could work on older Macs They can no longer upgrade to Sequoia.
It has a It costs €4.99 and the best of all is that it is a single paymentnot subscription. What we have seen prior to how window snapping works in macOS Sequoia is practically the same in Magnet, including keyboard shortcuts.
There is only one thing where Magnet is better than the native macOS Sequoia feature (which is why I continue to use the third-party app), window adjustment is literally to the limit and leaves no lines or borders that allow the wallpaper to be seen when accommodated.
If you don’t have it yet, don’t wait any longer to buy it, download it and see the magic if you don’t have macOS Sequoia. Another alternative within macOS Sequoia is Stage Manager and here we explain how it works.
