Explain why you are suitable for this position

Find something in the job description, company history, or industry that inspires you. For example:

“I am very impressed by the way you are introducing innovation into healthcare, especially artificial intelligence. As you know, I have experience in both areas and would like to contribute to their development.”

Be as specific as possible. Instead of “I am a good project manager,” it is better to say:

“I have experience managing complex projects, I know how to set clear goals and ensure that they are completed on time.”

Emphasize your uniqueness

Tell us what you’ve been working on lately and how your specific experience matches what this company is looking for. While other candidates will mention an MBA from a few years ago, you will present relevant examples and current skills.

“I know that the company is currently undergoing a large-scale rebranding, and I’m sure I can be useful here. In my current position, I have been involved in both the creation and renewal of brands. This requires…”

Help your interlocutor see you in the new role

Describe the picture in which you will be part of a team. Skills alone are not enough here – tell us how you will contribute to the common cause.

“I am confident that I can support the company’s mission. I have experience managing teams with similar tasks, which taught me that…”

Tell us why the corporate culture is close to you

To fit the position means to fit the team, and this applies primarily to personal qualities, and not just professional ones. However, honesty is important here.

“I love that you recognize the most outstanding employees every month. I’m sure it makes them feel appreciated. I know from my own experience that when I feel recognized, I work at my best.”

Use the other person’s words to your advantage

The question “Why should we hire you?” usually asked at the end. Take notes during the interview and use what you hear to help you present yourself.

“I believe that I will successfully cope with this role. You mentioned that you wanted someone who has worked with large enterprises and a large customer base. As I already said, at my previous job I performed similar tasks…”

Answer briefly and to the point

Your words should be clear and logical. Speak confidently, take your time, and emphasize key words.

How not to answer this question

In such a situation, it is tempting to say, “I’m worth hiring because I’m a great employee,” and start listing your awards and accomplishments. However, this is not what your interlocutor wants to hear.

The purpose of the question “Why should we hire you?” — make sure you are a suitable candidate. Therefore, your task is not to amaze, but to inspire and reinforce a positive impression.

  • “because I want to take my career to the next level”;

  • “because this is the perfect job for me.”
