The Romanian Police made a video to demonstrate how to drive correctly in the roundabout. However, after it was published on the institution’s Facebook page, most of the comments show that the drivers are dissatisfied with the new rules and, in fact, do not understand them.
A clip made by the Romanian Police regarding traffic rules in the roundabout has generated numerous reactions on social media.
Many of the drivers are confused by the explanations provided by the authorities.
The video made by the Romanian Police displeases the drivers
In order to make it clearer to drivers the rules that must be followed in the roundabout, the Romanian Police has made a video.
In the footage, a police officer explains step-by-step what a driver should do when they encounter a roundabout.
„In the roundabout, we must respect the traffic on the lanes, just like on the other roads. If we want to change the direction of travel, the first step is to signal ahead of time. To leave the roundabout, we make sure before changing the direction of travel. We give priority to cars traveling in lanes 2 and 1. (…) Having correctly entered lane number 1, we can leave the roundabout safely”, explains the officer in the images.
However, many of those who watched the clip are confused by the rules that apply.
„Is that all? That simple. Unbelievable. I thought that was the whole story. So we all enter from lane 1 so as not to give priority to anyone but our slippers. Well done, you are a force“, writes one of those who watched the clip.
„If we have to exit from lane 1, why are roundabouts built with two or more exit lanes?”, another person asked.
But, there were also positive opinions regarding the video made by the Romanian Police.
„Congratulations! But you make these explanatory videos for nothing, if you go to the comments you can see that most of them still don’t know how to drive, even if you color each lane differently or number it on the asphalt meter by meter, they will still consider that they have “exit priority” from B2 or B3 “, is another person’s opinion.
The clip can be watched in full at the bottom of the article.
How to drive correctly in the roundabout?
The updated Highway Code was amended in 2023 and determines who has priority at the roundabout.
„In the case of roundabout intersections, drivers must comply with lane traffic rules, having the obligation to signal in time to leave the intersection and ensure that they can do so without disrupting traffic or endangering the safety of other road users”, is established by Art 107, point 1.1, from law 195/2002.
In addition, it is important to know which direction to go before entering the roundabout. If we are going forward or to the right, it is recommended to drive in lane 1. If we are turning left or turning, we should drive in lane 2.
However, if there are no mandatory markings or indicators, then lane preselection is optional.
Thus, those who are in the roundabout in lane 1, always have priority, regardless of the direction in which they are going. Conversely, those on lane 2, when leaving the roundabout, are obliged to give way to those on lane 1. Those driving on lanes 3, 4 or higher have the same obligation, compared to the lower lanes.
