Do you want to test the stability of your computer? Use a stress test app and if there is a problem, it will be revealed immediately.
In the computer, an error in any component can be critical, something that leads to instability, random freezes, restarts. In the case of expansion cards, problematic hardware can be found out relatively simply by removing them one by one – but what about the parts without which the computer won’t even start?
Well, in this situation, you can use stress test applications, which not only reveal problematic hardware, but also come in handy if, for example, you want to check the efficiency of the processor cooler or the peak consumption of your PC.
Memtest86+
This software was developed for testing memory modules, runs from its own USB stick or CD and can be started on any x86 or x64 system. If there are problems with the memory, it will show it for sure – if you use several memory modules, it won’t tell you which one is faulty. It is therefore worth running the application first with all memory modules in the machine, and if Memtest86+ indicates an error, then test the RAMs individually in the second round. Not to be confused with the application called Memtest86!
MSI Afterburner + Kombuster
MSI Afterburner, which, contrary to its name, can only be used with MSI products; all parameters of the graphic controllers can be fine-tuned with it. But that’s not why it was included in our compilation, but because it also includes a stress test module called Kombuster. Please note that this add-on is not included in the basic package, it must be installed separately.
IntelBurnTest
In the case of the processor, the stress test can reveal not only stability problems, but also if the performance of the cooling system may not be adequate. Countless programs have been prepared for this task, among them we single out IntelBurnTest, the great advantage of which is that it gives quick results: in contrast to other software, which often require 12-24 hours of running, Intel’s application already guarantees that the CPU is flawless after 15 minutes of running. . Contrary to its name, this app does not only work with Intel processors, but can also sweat AMD processors.
CrystalDiskMark
In the case of SSD (or maybe HDD), stress testing as such is not really a relevant approach; you can easily find out whether the data medium is working flawlessly or not by copying it full of data and then reading it back, but the Windows built-in chkdsk command also works if you use it together with the /f switch. However, CrystalDiskMark is still a useful tool, because you can use it to check whether the writing and reading performance is still close to the factory values.
AIDA64 Extreme
Instead of focusing on just one component, AIDA64 Extreme can monitor and mostly test the entire system. This program is the best choice if you want to check the stability of the entire system, but it also includes several CPU and RAM testing modules. The Extreme version is paid, but if you don’t want it for yourself permanently, but would just like to find out a problem, you can also use the 30-day trial version.
