how to make a broken team work

This summer, Jürgen Henn took up the position of head coach of the Estonian national football team, who needs to get the team working in a slump so that the team is successful both now and in 4-5 years.

In the program “Äripää fokuses”, Jürgen Hennu and I talk about how to revive a broken team and form a team that starts working well. How to make different characters move towards a common goal? What to do when the greatest talent does not match the others? What does Jürgen Henn do with a team member who thinks too highly of himself?

The most difficult moments for Hennu as a manager are those moments when it is necessary to exclude a player from the team or from the game day, who is good in terms of commitment and attitude, but someone surpasses him in terms of football skills. He does not rule out that there are people who are so deeply offended by him as a coach that they look past him instead of greeting him on the street.

“There can certainly be some, because it is clear that as a leader you see the direction you want to move in the same way, but there are people who see it differently. During this process, people will definitely see that they were wronged, that they were not treated fairly – this is, I think, inevitable,” he said. According to Hennu, such situations were particularly difficult for him at the beginning of his career, but now he is more used to the burden.

In the show, we talk about the possibilities of Jürgen Hennu, who has been named the best football coach in Estonia several times in the public, to have a career abroad, and how he has found vigor and freshness as a manager, when it has been lost in the meantime. We also talk about how good a leader Jürgen Hennu thinks Estonian football’s great leader Aivar Pohlak is.

In the coming days, the Estonian national team faces the following important matches in the UEFA Nations League: this Friday against Azerbaijan and on Monday against the Swedish national team.
