Android vs. The iOS debate is over a decade old. Each operating system has its benefits and disadvantages. Nowadays, there are actually fewer differences between these platforms than the average user would imagine. And nothing is better than making decisions based on personal experience. That’s why it’s good for even the biggest iPhone fans to try an Android smartphone for at least a few months. To make the transition go smoothly, we have prepared a guide on how to transfer data from iPhone to Android.
It’s not Android like Android
Transferring contacts, photos and messages from one platform to another has been quite easy for a few years now. If you’ve decided to change your phone, or you’ve got a new Android under the tree, with this guide you’ll be able to use it like your old iPhone with almost everything you’re used to. And maybe even a little better.
For those who care about the transition to Android, we recommend choosing one of the Pixel models as your first Android phone after years on iOS. They are smartphones directly from Google with a pure system and represent a kind of pure Android experience. Of course, various superstructures from brands such as Samsung or Xiaomi will not be an obstacle. Only each manufacturer has partially different setting options and bonus functions.
A few steps and in android you have everything
So what to do if you have decided to put the iPhone in the drawer and try android? The procedure is very simple and basically short. However, if you plan to transfer dozens of gigabytes of photos and videos, the data transfer will, of course, take much longer.
- First, make sure both smartphones are charged at least 80 percent.
- By iPhone turn off FaceTime (Settings – Apps – FaceTime – Turn off FaceTime) and log out of the service iMessageso that there are no conflicts with classic SMS. Just go to Settings – Apps – Messages – turn off iMessage). This is an important step that you should not miss.
- On Android, follow the steps on the first boot screen to sign in to your Google accounts. Alternatively, insert a SIM card or activate an eSIM in case you do not have access to WiFi.
- Now follow the on-screen instructions to pair both mobiles cable. For older iPhones, you will need a cable with an end Lightning na USB-C. With newer ones USB-C na USB-C. Often these cables are included with mobile phones, so there shouldn’t be a problem with that.
- Data transfer can also be done wirelesslybut in this way the transfer will take longer and mainly only contacts, calendar events, photos and videos can be transferred, but not anymore messages from iMessage or WhatsApp and not even installed applications. You will need to have the app installed on your iPhone for wireless transmission Android Switch. In case you’re switching to Samsung, use the app Samsung Switch. You can find applications in the AppStore manually, or use the QR code to quickly find them, which will be displayed on the Android mobile screen.
- After connecting the mobiles with a cable, follow the instructions on the screen and agree to the prompt on the iPhone whether the connected computer is trusted. For multiple items, agree to full access to photos, contacts, and other things on your iPhone.
- Then, select what you want to copy on your Android mobile. Either way contacts, photo a videos stored in the mobile phone’s memory, messages a applications (which have an Android version). In most of them, especially the more complex ones, like bank applications, you will have to register again. So have your login data and codes handy.
- Let the data copying complete and then just enjoy your new Android smartphone and get to know its controls and functions.
Tip: Watch out for some exclusive Apple options that you don’t get with an Android smartphone. These include, for example, the Apple TV app, but you also won’t be able to use the Apple Watch. But there are dozens of smart watches on the market, even for very demanding users, that support Android.

- Select settings and there Sync settings
- Choose whether you want to synchronize photos and videos, contacts and calendars
- Open Google One on your Android smartphone and synchronize the data again to the new mobile in the same way
Tip: For as little hassle as possible with transferring photos and videos between any smartphones, we recommend using Google Photos. It’s a handy app that serves as a gallery and video and photo editor along with handy AI search. It also supports easy backup to the Google One cloud. After that, you just need to log in to your Google account on any computer or mobile via a web browser or downloaded application, and you have all the images and videos at hand. The downside is that storage on Google One is only free up to 15 GB. You can also seamlessly synchronize contacts saved in your Google account between devices. Just sign in with your Google account on your iPhone and enable cloud synchronization.
