Google is constantly improving its applications and Photos they get new and new functions. The last time was a change in the display on the home page, where the Library was replaced by Collections. Makes searching in albums and files easier.

The news also includes Grouping photos. Some users have had this feature for a long time, while others have only recently seen it. Photo Grouping automatically organizes similar photos into groups in the mobile app (not on the web) for easier viewing and management, such as deleting junk. This means that if you take multiple photos of the same object or scene in close succession, Google Photos will automatically grouped into one group.

It can help you find the photos you’re looking for faster and also save space on your storage. For some it is useful, but for others it can be a hindrance.

How to turn grouping off or on?

On your smartphone, open the Google Photos app, tap the three dots on the right side of the screen, and you’ll see a Group similar photos switch. This simply turns the function off and on. Grouped photos can be recognized by the icon with a number on the photo, which informs about the number of grouped images. After clicking on a file, all similar photos will be displayed and you can easily switch between them and continue working with them.
