Huawei has plans to develop its own operating system, must get rid of dependence on the US | News

In an expected move by which Huawei Technologies Co. distance itself even more from American technologies, it plans to launch its flagship Mate 70 smartphone and tablets equipped with its own HarmonyOS Next system.

The strategy aims to win back the premium market in China while removing dependence on Google’s Android system. This shift marks continued evolution in Huawei’s technology environment and also reflects the fact that Western firms have problems with the security risks that many experts say arise from using the brand.

Huawei announced the new direction during a live event where it unveiled its Mate 70 flagship phone, which will be powered by the next iteration of its own HarmonyOS Next operating system. This decision is explained as Huawei’s effort to move away from dependence on American technologies and create a fully domestic technological ecosystem, but at the same time it is a necessity, since the company is currently unable to cooperate with American companies due to a legislative ban. With Donald Trump taking office, it is clear that nothing will change about this process, as Trump originally stood for cutting off Huawei and is taking a hawkish stance towards China.

The introduction of the HarmonyOS Next system is important for the company primarily because of the domestic market, where it is trying to push out foreign competitors, primarily Apple. By supplying devices powered exclusively by its own software, Huawei is trying to regain its dominant position in a market where it has faced significant problems in recent years due to the aforementioned ban.

The Mate 70 is meant to demonstrate the company’s ability to develop products that include advanced features while being independent from major US technology vendors. The introduction of HarmonyOS Next represents a broader strategy to foster a sustainable ecosystem that supports local developers and users – and of course plays on a patriotic note directed not only towards the US, but also the very hostile attitude of India and the local big market.

Of course, it must be said that the security issues that are being addressed in the West do not only concern phones and tablets, but complex issues of the technologies offered by Huawei. The promotion of HarmonyOS Next is primarily a step to reach the domestic market.
