Smartphone manufacturer Huawei is unveiling its latest Mate devices: the Mate 70 series. The smartphones seem too good to be worth it, and they are, because Android is missing.
Huawei Mate 70 series official
Huawei announces four high-end smartphones. The Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro Plus and Mate 70 RS are striking smartphones with impressive cameras, long battery life and bright screens. It’s quite a task, so we’ll go through the most important specifications with you.
Starting with the Mate 70: the entry-level model with a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen. On the back you will find three cameras: a 50 megapixel main camera, 40 megapixel telephoto lens and 12 megapixel wide-angle lens. It also has a large 5500 mAh battery.
The Mate 70 Pro matches many specifications, but has a 48-megapixel wide-angle lens. The screen is 6.9 inches and has a slightly higher resolution. Due to the larger housing, the battery is also large. The Mate 70 Pro Plus has more RAM and the Mate 70 RS is the top model, but in a luxurious finish with more expensive materials and in different colors.
Huawei Mate 70 series truly Android-free soon
But no matter how cool Huawei’s Mate 70 series is, it is of little use to us in the Netherlands. Smartphones are not coming this way and anyone who does get one will not have a wide range of useful apps.
With the announcement of the Mate 70 series, Huawei makes it clear that it can develop decent phones even without American software or hardware. For example, the devices use chips developed in China, expected to be the Kirin 9100. However, in terms of speed they still lag behind processors that are made together with American companies.
Huawei is also erasing American influences in the field of software. While the phones currently use an older version of Android without Google Play services, the Mate 70s will soon become completely Android-free.
They will run on Harmony OS NEXT, which means they will no longer be able to run Android apps. Huawei fans will be getting those Google apps in a roundabout way the sideload that doesn’t make it easy.
Despite the lack of American hardware and software, Huawei is huge in China. The Huawei Mate 70 has been converted from that 723 euro for sale, the Chinese pay the equivalent for the Mate 70 Pro 855 eurofrom Mate 70 Pro Plus kost 1119 euro and the Mate 70RS costs 1579 euro.
