OR Huawei the series Mate 70which includes the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro Plus and Mate 70 RS, at a big event in Beijing.
Mate 70 & Μate 70 Pro
Starting with the Mate 70, it is the smallest in size and the only one in the series to have a flat frame. It is the thinnest at 7.8mm.
The Mate 70 and 70 Pro have an IP69 rating, which offers protection against water drops under pressure.
The Mate 70 features a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED with FHD+ resolution and a variable refresh rate of 1-120Hz. The Mate 70 Pro expands the diagonal of the screen to 6.9 inches, while maintaining the FHD+ resolution and variable refresh rate. Both phones feature a maximum brightness of 2,500 nits and second-generation Kunlun protective glass.
On the front of the Mate 70 we have a 13MP ultra-wide-angle selfie camera, while the Pro adds a 3D Depth camera for secure face unlock. The new models return to side-mounted fingerprint scanners integrated into the power button. This button also incorporates smart controls such as toggling the flash, AI assistant or muting the device with double and long presses.
In the camera department, Huawei brings the f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture for the 50MP primary camera, which also offers OIS. It comes with a 40MP ultrawide lens on both phones.
The Mate 70 has a 12MP periscope with 5.5x optical zoom, while the Pro model gets a 48MP sensor with 4x optical zoom.
In the new model we see the exclusive spectral imaging sensor, which is located in the middle of the camera island.
Unlike the traditional red, green, green, blue (RGGB) or red, yellow, yellow, blue (RYYB) color sensors in previous Huawei phones, the spectral imaging units can gather more color data, leading to improved color accuracy, natural skin tones and better shadow retention.
Huawei’s new sensors cover 1.5 million multispectral channels. This sensor works in tandem with the other sensors to deliver natural color reproduction, even in complex light scenes.
Although Huawei does not reveal the processor, we can safely assume that all the new Mate 70 series phones are equipped with the rumored Kirin 9100 chipset.
It is rumored to be a 6nm SoC reportedly built on the SMIC N+3 process and features a core Cortex-X1 core clocked at 2.67GHz.
Both phones will ship with Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4.3, with an update to the latest HarmonyOS Next expected in the future.
The Mate 70 has a 5,300mAh battery with 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, while the Mate 70 Pro has a 5,500mAh one with faster 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging.
The Mate 70 and 70 Pro come in Spruce Green, Hyacinth Purple, Snow White and Obsidian Black colors.
Pricing for the Mate 70 starts at CNY 5,499 ($757), while the Mate 70 Pro starts at CNY 6,499 ($895).
Both phones are already up for pre-order in China, with deliveries expected to begin on December 4. Huawei has not revealed any plans for a global release of the Mate 70 series.
