Huawei Mate 70/Mate 70 Pro: These two phones don’t lose their glamour!

Four powerful new models of the Mate 70 series revealed today at a big event in Shenzhen and perhaps the greatest interest is focused on in vanilla Mate 70 and on Mate 70 Pro!

Starting with the case of the Mate 70, we should clarify that it is the smallest phone of the new batch, with small being a relative term here and the only model in the entire refreshed range to have a flat frame. It is the thinnest with a profile thickness of 7.8 mm.

Like the latest Chinese flagships, the Mate 70 and 70 Pro are IP69 ratedwhich offers protection against their exposure to water.

Although we call it small, we are pleasantly surprised by the Mate 70 that managed to fit a screen into its body 6.7-inch LTPO OLED with FHD+ resolution and variable refresh rate of 1-120 Hz. The Mate 70 Pro expands the diagonal of the screen to 6.9 inches, while maintaining the FHD+ resolution and variable refresh rate. Both phones boast a maximum brightness of 2,500 nits and second generation Kunlun glasswhich features toughened basalt fiber glass for added drop protection.

Opting for the Mate 70, you should definitely be satisfied with selfies, as it features a 13MP ultra-wide-angle front-facing camera, while the Pro version adds a 3D Depth camera for secure face unlock. Note that unlike their predecessors, the new Mate 70 models return to side-mounted fingerprint scanners integrated into the on/off button. This button also incorporates smart controls such as toggling the flash, AI assistant or muting the device with double and long presses.

At the back, Huawei’s new model brings the f/1.4-f/4.0 variable aperture for the 50MP main camera, which also offers OIS. It comes with a 40MP ultra-wide lens on both the phones.

The Mate 70 features 12MP periscope with 5.5x optical zoom, while the Pro model gets a 48MP sensor with 4x optical zoom.

Hear this too… there’s a new dedicated spectral imaging sensor, which sits in the middle of the camera sub-frame. Unlike the traditional red, green, green, blue (RGGB) or red, yellow, yellow, blue (RYYB) color sensors in previous Huawei phones, the spectral imaging units can gather more color data, leading to improved color accuracy, natural skin tones and better shadow retention.

Huawei’s new sensors cover 1.5 million multispectral channels. This sensor works in tandem with the other shooters to deliver natural color reproduction, even in complex light scenes.

If you’ve been following Huawei in the post-USban days, you know they’ve been keeping details about their chipsets under wraps. This is no different this time and we can only assume that all the new Mate 70 series phones are equipped with the rumored Kirin 9100 .

Based on speculation, it is about a 6nm SoC which is said to be built on the SMIC N+3 process and features a basic Cortex-X1 core clocked at 2.67GHz.

Another common feature of the two phones is that they are released with Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4.3, while an update to the latest HarmonyOS Next is expected in the future.

In the Mate 70 we will also find a 5,300mAh battery with 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging; while the Mate 70 Pro brings a 5,500 mAh cell with faster 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging.

The Mate 70 and 70 Pro come in Spruce Green, Hyacinth Purple, Snow White and Obsidian Black colors.

The price for Mate 70 starts from 5.499 CNY (757 $)while the Mate 70 Pro starts at 6.499 CNY (895 $).

There is already a pre-order form in China, while deliveries are expected to start on December 4. Huawei has not revealed any plans for a global release of the Mate 70 series.
