Huawei wants at least 100,000 apps for HarmoneyOS

China’s Huawei has called on more developers to support its HarmonyOS mobile platform ecosystem, shortly before the launch of its highly anticipated Mate 70 smartphone. The number of apps must increase to 100,000. “This will be a major goal for the ecosystem over the next six months to a year,” say Eric Xu Zhijun, Huawei’s rotating chairman.

Currently there are approximately 15,000 apps for HarmonyOS Next.

HarmoneyOS was created in 2019 after Huawei lost access to the Android ecosystem due to a US ban. Domestic adoption has been strong since the launch of the Mate 60 last year. Huawei occupies third place in China after Vivo and Apple. But outside China the company has lost a lot of market share.

Huawei will launch its new smartphone today. The Mate 70 could already be ordered from November 18. Huawei’s official online store showed that more than 3 million people have signed up for pre-orders of the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro and Mate 70 Pro+ models.
