Huawei Watch D2 Unboxing & Review: “The ultimate health care tool”!

Her smartwatches Huawei they have brought many innovations to the company, which is no accident. In recent years, Huawei has made significant progress in wearable technology, surpassing the competition. Key features of its smartwatches are high accuracy in measurements, durable and quality construction, as well as impressive battery life. The company, instead of resting on its laurels, continues to invest in new technologies and innovation.

The Huawei Watch D, introduced two years ago (and you can remember his review again, by clicking here), is an example of this innovation. It is a smartwatch that deviates from the ordinary and also functions as a blood pressure monitor. Initially it was considered as a more “experimental” product, but it also conquered the market, with sales of close to 1,000,000 units, with over 50% made in Europe. Realizing the success, Huawei improved and further developed the capabilities of the Watch D, creating a successor that is not just an upgrade, but a full-featured smartwatch, perfect for monitoring blood pressure. But let’s get to know it in more detail…

Cutting edgedesign… that was missing!

The concept of a device in the form of a watch that is worn on the wrist and performs the duties of a blood pressure monitor is certainly not something that has not been presented in the past, however, it is the technological patents that accompany the Watch D that make it “one of a kind”. It is not just a coincidence that already Huawei in cooperation with medical institutions, hospitals, research centers and universities has developed more than 200 technological patents related to blood and its measurements. So, as you can imagine, the Watch D2 is taken care of even in its smallest detail, with the device having certification for use as a medical gadget, by the competent committee of the European Union (European CE MDR Medical Certification). And the truth is, knowing how strict EE is on health-related issues, it’s not the easiest thing in the world for a company to get the aforementioned certificate.

Taking a first look at the Huawei Watch D2, it becomes clear that the Chinese tech giant wanted to greatly improve the feel and functions of its new “sphygmomanometer” smartwatch. So making a first comparison with its predecessor, the differences can be seen with… the naked eye, as the D2 has been almost completely redesigned to be more compact and at the same time beautiful to the eye. By general admission (and by the Huawei executives themselves), the first Huawei Watch D did not stand out so much for its external appearance, as it was a rather bulky device that actually focused more on the functional character than on the design. With the Huawei Watch D2, things are different, as here we have a dial that is more square with rounded edges, which exudes style and dynamism. The premium 2.5D design philosophy (which Huawei calls floating design) combines charm with simplicity, creating a set that is sure to captivate the eye. The diagonal of the display is 1.82 inches, with the UX interface being displayed with impressive vibrancy and excellent color rendering.

While in the first version there was an additional action button, here Huawei preferred a digital crown, which if nothing else gives more flexibility and better control. Right next to it is a rectangular action button, which essentially jumps to the blood pressure measurement menu, while the durable steel frame offers impressive durability. In order for the Huawei Watch D2 to acquire its most sophisticated look, Huawei’s R&D department had to work on the special airbag strap, which is integrated into the inner side of the strap. The “airbag” in question, which inflates through a micro-pump (micro-pump) of air, has been completely redesigned so that it is softer, but also more compact in dimensions (with its thickness reaching 26.5mm). So, Huawei’s second “sphygmomanometer” watch has an advanced airbag strap that is much more compact-sized but also silent (when the blood pressure measurement process is performed, not a single sound is heard), while at the same time it is more comfortable to wear hand, as it is extra soft. Indicative of the work that Huawei put in is that the Airbag that surrounds the Watch D2 has undergone 100 different optimizations and 20 different technological processes that certify and ensure its correct operation.

Holter; Last year!

Undoubtedly, in terms of appearance the Watch D2 is clearly improved compared to its predecessor. But where we have the most important technological breakthrough of the device is that it has an Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor (ABPM) function, also known as a blood pressure Holter to the general public. Wearable Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) takes blood pressure readings at predetermined time intervals throughout the day and night, over a full 24-hour sleep-wake cycle. According to cardiologists and experts, this is also the most effective method of recording blood pressure, as the machine in question can record every change in it.

As experts have found, blood pressure changes during the course of a day due to emotional changes. Negative emotions such as anger, stress and sadness may lead to increased blood pressure. In addition, environmental factors, dietary habits and daily routines greatly affect blood pressure levels. So looking at the measurement coming from a Holter device, it usually shows a “two peaks and one valley” pattern, with the peaks occurring in the morning and late afternoon, while the lowest value is seen late at night. In this way, by gathering the data from a 24-hour Holter monitor, specialists can form a more complete picture of whether a patient is suffering from hypertension and then proceed with the appropriate treatment.

The Huawei Watch D2, for its part, has the technology to work just like a Holter machine, recording blood pressure on a 24-hour basis. However, its comparative advantage lies in the fact that it is an extremely compact device that you can just feel it on your wrist, and not a relatively bulky medical machine with cables hanging left and right, which may make it difficult for its user. Huawei’s proposal enables the user to create a program to measure their blood pressure in detail over a 24-hour period, specifying the exact time intervals in which the watch will count, (covering a duration from 30 minutes to 2 hours).

It is worth noting that the Huawei Watch D2 is designed to support accurate measurements in multiple scenarios: office, sleep, sitting position, day and night. If anything, what we found is that Huawei has created a smartwatch that overcomes the limitations of traditional blood pressure measuring devices, as it can adapt to different wrist circumferences of users and different life and work scenarios, 24 hours a day. In order for Huawei to be able to reach this high level, it went through a series of extensive tests and verifications, utilizing over 500,000 real measurement data from users!

A skillful “well-being” companion!

Undoubtedly, the most extravagant function of the Chinese tech giant’s “sphygmomanometer” smartwatch is the accurate measurement of blood pressure (indeed, the watch can measure effectively in different body positions). However, at the same time, it does not cease to be a remarkable and highly efficient smartwatch whose main goal is to significantly help in the adoption of a well-being everyday life, but also in improving the health and well-being of its user. That’s why it comes loaded with 80 different sports and training modes (such as running, walking, cycling and climbing and various variations thereof), supporting the ability to automatically detect 6 common activities, with accurate GNSS tracking and data-based training evaluations – allowing in this way you can accurately record your training sessions and then make the most of them. Without a doubt, this particular smartwatch no matter what your favorite sport is, it makes the idea of sports a truly uniquely enjoyable process.

The above is, of course, complemented by the TruSeen algorithm grid that takes over the processing of the data coming from the watch’s sensors, filtering out noise and interference caused by movement or changing environmental conditions. This ensures that measurements remain reliable regardless of conditions and scenarios. Supporting exactly the same technology as the GT5 and GT5 Pro (which are the new flagships in Huawei’s wearables), the Watch D2 can record blood oxygen levels, stress measurement, but also carry out extensive sleep monitoring for quality of our sleep, even recording sleep apnea. In total, the device supports 9 measurements: Heart rate, blood SpO2 levels, body temperature, blood pressure, stress measurement, ECG (electrocardiogram), vascular elasticity and sleep apnea.

Concluding our contact with the Watch D2, we could not fail to refer to the software that surrounds the special Huawei watch, as Harmony OS provides a user experience that is comfortable, fast and extremely easy to use for the user. Of course, as in all Huawei smartwatches, here too you can proceed with a series of customization options, choosing a multitude of different Watch Faces, which are available through the App Gallery, while it works perfectly with the operating systems Android, iOS and EMUI. Finally, in terms of autonomy, the watch can last approximately 6 days without charging, but this time has been calculated with one pressure measurement per day (in the case of more measurements, it is reasonable to reduce the above duration significantly).

An “assistant” for the most precious commodity!

The ancients used to say that there is no more valuable good than our health, and indeed we can only agree. The Huawei Watch D2 is the smartwatch that functions as the best health “assistant”, a device that has the character of an extremely valuable high-tech tool that can prove to be an “ally” against blood pressure (it goes without saying that the device does not “diagnosis”, as it records data, which can then be used by the health professional you should always consult). The Watch D2 incorporates years of technological development research into the world of smartwatches, and Huawei has definitely succeeded in perfecting the revolutionary smartwatch concept it created. We don’t hide from you that we are looking forward to the possibilities of… Watch D3!
