The smartwatch is smarter than before and offers even more sporty features. With a titanium case, the Watch GT 5 Pro costs €499 RRP. If you want to save a little and don’t care so much about a metal bracelet, you can go for the version with a soft rubber bracelet. This costs significantly less at €379.

Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro in the test: Highest processing quality

Is this still a smartwatch or a luxury watch with a display? With the GT 5 Pro, we tend to think it’s the latter. Huawei makes the case of the smartwatch out of titanium and also includes a matching metal bracelet. The back of the watch is made of very scratch-resistant ceramic. A material that can also be found on the front. There, behind the sapphire cover glass, a blue and red GMT ring runs around the case, which is also made of ceramic – a feature that is familiar from classic luxury watches.

The case of the GT 5 Pro is now actually octagonal. It is made entirely of robust and lightweight titanium. The metal bracelet is integrated into the case.

Huawei has refined the design a little. This time, the octagonal shape is no longer just suggested, but the entire casing is made as an octagon. Huawei uses a design that is currently very popular: the metal bracelet blends seamlessly into the casing. It is thus practically integrated into the casing.

The GT 5 Pro is without question one of the highest quality smartwatches on the market. Its workmanship is on a par with a classic watch in the premium segment. Otherwise, the smartwatch is very comfortable to wear. If you prefer to wear a different strap for sports, Huawei has a wide selection. The strap can also be changed very easily using a push button.

The metal bracelet is particularly clever as you can easily remove links using a quick-release fastener to adjust the length.

Watch GT 5 Pro now also a dive computer

The technical data is quite similar compared to its predecessor. The GT 5 Pro measures 46 millimeters in diameter, is 11 millimeters thick and weighs 89 grams with a titanium strap. That’s a bit more than other smartwatches, but considering the strap is made of metal, it’s quite light. The water resistance is 5 ATM, and Huawei has had the watch certified to IP69. But that’s not all: the GT 5 Pro is also certified for diving up to 40 meters. So you can use it as a dive computer for scuba diving or free diving.

The display still offers a generous diagonal of 1.4 inches. The OLED has a very fine resolution of 466 x 466 pixels, which guarantees a crisp, sharp display. The contrast is also top-notch and the brightness is at an excellent level with a maximum of 545 candelas.

Comprehensive health tracking and offline maps

The Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro continues to offer a comprehensive range of health functions. In addition to the ECG function, the watch also measures skin temperature and blood oxygen levels. Also included is the function of monitoring arterial stiffness. This is done by measuring the pulse wave velocity using an ECG. The result should allow conclusions to be drawn about the elasticity and health of the arteries.

Overall, the heart rate measurement is very accurate, both in everyday life and during sports. The GT 5 Pro just doesn’t cope quite as well with rapid changes in pace as the Galaxy Watches or current Garmin watches. Here, it takes a little longer for the increasing heart rate to be recorded by the smartwatch.

The GT 5 Pro can track almost any sport you can imagine. Trail running is a new addition. It’s fitting that Huawei also offers offline maps for the GT 5 Pro, which you can download to your watch for all regions of the world using the app. For mountain fans, the optionally downloadable contour lines are a decisive criterion and very helpful when hiking.

Golfers also get their money’s worth, as the Watch GT 5 Pro comes with a golf mode. Huawei offers maps for 15,000 courses.

Detailed evaluations and sleep analysis

The Huawei Health app continues to serve as the basis for evaluating all data. It is clearly laid out and offers a very good training and health evaluation with numerous graphics. The app provides a lot of details and indicates the exact training load and the recommended recovery time after training. Still very exemplary: The app explains all terms in detail and thus also guides beginners.

When you buy the Watch GT 5 Pro, you also get Huawei Health+ for three months free of charge. The add-on in the app, which normally costs 8 euros per month, includes various workouts and meditation exercises as well as a personal plan for losing weight.

Sleep tracking is also very detailed, typical of Huawei, and offers users a comprehensive analysis of their sleep quality in the app. The individual sleep phases are broken down and evaluated separately. A short written summary of sleep provides the most important information. The app also gives a sleep score that evaluates sleep. If you want, you can also record sleep noises to find out if you snore.

Watch GT 5 Pro gets a bit smarter

The Watch GT 5 Pro is not the smartest smartwatch on the market, but Huawei has given it one or two upgrades. You still receive notifications from your apps on the GT 5 Pro via the Bluetooth connection to your phone. Instead of just responding using pre-made quick replies, you can now also answer them using the keyboard. If you want to make phone calls with your watch, you can do so easily with the GT 5 Pro thanks to the microphone and speaker. A WiFi connection for quick updates, however, is still only available in Huawei’s premium lineup.

Music streaming to connected headphones is possible with the GT 5 Pro, but only via Huawei Music and not via common services such as Spotify. Mobile payment is also missing. The app store for the smartwatch, which you access via the Health app, offers significantly less choice compared to Samsung or Google watches. Huawei’s watches are therefore still not the smartest on the market. But as always, it depends on which features you really need.

Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro has a very good battery life

And if you choose a very smart watch, like the Apple or Samsung Galaxy Watches, you also have to live with a fairly short battery life. The Watch GT 5 Pro is completely different. If you wear it around the clock for health tracking and notifications, you get a battery life of 12 days. Sports use with GPS is possible for over 22 hours before the battery needs to be recharged.
