Huawei’s completely independent operating system has been introduced – here are the details –

The manufacturer made serious progress with the Android-free version of HarmonyOS.

The American sanctions imposed on Huawei forced the Chinese manufacturer to develop its own operating system – this is how HarmonyOS, presented in 2019, was born. Until now, the system was largely based on the open source version of Android, the Android Open Source Project, but the other day the company presented HarmonyOS Next, which no longer contains a single line of Android code.

For the time being, the new, completely self-developed operating system will run on the manufacturer’s mobiles available in China, but Huawei has already confirmed that a global launch is also planned. By the way, more than 15,000 different applications and services are already compatible with the ecosystem, and this will naturally only increase in the future.

HarmonyOS Next has also undergone some visual tweaking. The start screen has been expanded with new personalization options, the control center has been renewed, in addition, applications load faster and animations have become smoother.

According to the manufacturer’s promise, devices running the new operating system can be up to 30 percent faster, not to mention that they can use 20 percent less energy for certain system processes. Data transfer speed has also improved significantly: thanks to Huawei Share 2.0, a 1.2 GB file can be transferred in just 8 seconds. The security of the system is guaranteed by Huawei’s own Star Shield architecture.

HarmonyOS Next beta is currently only available in China; supported by Pura 70 series, Huawei Pocket 2 and MatePad Pro 11 (2024). So far, the manufacturer has not said anything about the date of the global launch.
