Huawei’s new luxury car brand is like a combination of Maybach, Porsche and Rolls-Royce

The Chinese Huawei aims to become a major car manufacturer. On its way to the top, it has now established a new brand with JAC, which is already the fourth car brand for the technology giant.

The new Maextro brand ranks above AITO (Huawei and Seres), Luxceed (Huawei and Chery) and Stelato (Huawei and BAIC). There can be many opinions about the name of the new brand, because at least for fans of British cars, it can remind them of the rather unsuccessful Austin Maestro.

Despite the name, we are now moving on a completely different level. In China, Maextro will certainly not become a big favorite, as it is positioned as a competitor to, for example, Maybach and Rolls-Royce. Maextro’s promise is competitor-level features, comfort and equipment at a much lower price.

Huawei’s new luxury car brand is like a combination of Maybach, Porsche and Rolls-Royce

The first Maextro model is the S800, which will enter the market in the spring of 2025. The design of the electric passenger car follows a well-proven formula. It has a long hood (even though the car is electric), a curved, high-standing roofline that drops strongly towards the rear, and a long wheelbase that promises a lot of good things.

Chinese car design has developed enormously in recent years, but the Maextro S800 doesn’t even aim for originality. Instead of building its own identity, the S800’s shapes have borrowed features from European luxury brands. For example, the inspiration for the rims comes from Rolls-Royce. The lines of the rear end of the body have a lot in common with the Porsche Panamera, and the two-tone color is almost like a Maybach.

General Manager of Huawei Technologies Consumer Business Group Yu Chengdong said at the presentation of the Maextro S800 that it is bigger than 99.99 percent of the passenger cars on China’s roads. The wheelbase is 3.37 meters, the body is 5.48 meters long, exactly two meters wide and over one and a half meters high. In terms of size, the S800 is exactly the same size as Mercedes-Maybach’s S-series and only slightly smaller than the Rolls-Royce Ghost.

For now, Maextro is only letting us peek into the S800’s interior as much as the image above. It says a lot while leaving a lot open to the imagination. Tähtitaivas is the idea of a direct loan from Rolls-Royce. The materials seem to be top class, as you can expect from a car of this level. There is space for two in the back seat, and the car has the latest technology up to level 3 autonomous driving.

In the first phase, almost nothing was said about the technology. The basic structure is the Tuling Intelligent Chassis designed by Huawei, and it is an electric car. More detailed information about the engine and performance will be given before the car enters the market in spring 2025.

The price was hinted at a bit more, and it was described as very competitive. Pre-orders are already being accepted on the 20th 000 juanin (2 €600) with booking fee. The price is expected to be in the 1-1.5 million yuan range (131 500–197 €200), with which the Maextro S800 competes in China with the BMW i7 and Mercedes-Benz EQS.
