Huge performance boost for SD 8 Gen 4 GPU over SD 8 Gen 3

We often find new interesting findings about his abilities the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, which will power many of the “Ultra” flagships of 2025, including the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Xiaomi 15 series, Oppo Find X8 Ultra and vivo X200 Ultra. The latest news is that the chipset is said to have a GPU clock speed of 1.15 GHz. In order to better understand the performance difference in the GPU part, it is enough to mention that in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset that has the Adreno 750 GPU, we have a clock speed at 770 MHz, much lower than that of the upcoming chipset.

A Weibo user with the nickname “Undying Spirits” (translated) reports a 3D Mark Wildlife test result of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and reveals a GPU clock speed of 1.15 GHz. The chipset delivers 166 frames in 3DMark’s Wild Life off-screen test and around 44 fps in Wild Life Extreme Unlimited. This is a 46-53% improvement over Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Correspondingly high were the numbers recorded in GFX Bench’s Aztec Ruins High where the upcoming chipset manages to offer 125fps, while the Adreno 750 inside the 8 Gen 3 only manages to achieve around 96fps.

It is important to point out that the results we see come from a QRD (Qualcomm Reference Device), which usually uses early versions of new chip’s. These are smartphones made by Qualcomm for the purpose of chip evaluation and are not necessarily aimed at better performance or heat dissipation. So the chipsets usually don’t have the same clock speeds as the retail version. The clock speed and GPU performance could be even higher in retail units from different smartphone manufacturers.

Previously said by the tipster @Ice Universe that the clock speed reached 1.25 GHz, which is still possible.

Speaking of the CPU, the chipset has already made its appearance on Geekbench, with single and multi-core scores of 2884 and 8840 respectively. The edition “For Galaxy” of the chipset also appeared on the platform with the slightly higher performance of the 3060 and 9080 in single and multi-core tests respectively.
